Good win but the sloppy penalty taking was horrendous. There has to be a happy medium between the old scheme and new scheme. They went from a defense first scheme to an offensive style and the defense is struggling for now, hopefully as season goes along the defensive end of the scheme tightens up.
This is a good team but, damn, they just have games where they are asleep. The good thing is we have the cap space and assets to finally make some trades.
The Islanders played a tough game against Philadelphia. Walstrohm gave Deangelo a run for his money, Deangelo thought kid was going to go down easy but Ollie stood his ground and earned his NHL stripes. Good win vs Tortorella coached team.
15-8 30 points. Isles are quietly having a good year. Damn Devils won't lose though. Only a handful of teams have 30 or more points right now and the Isles are one of them.
That’s due to the new scheme, Lambert knows his defense is deep and talented. I believe the Islanders have the most points contributed from defense in NHL. I like that they make an effort to always put puck on net instead of trying to wait for perfect opportunity under like they did under Trotz. We can also look at goals for and goals against, this year they are in the plus category, they were never in that position under Trotz. Let’s hope this translates to a deep playoff run as well, Bruins and Devils are on fire!
(5) NHL Public Relations on Twitter: "⭐⭐⭐ Ilya Sorokin stopped 103 of 107 shots for a 3-0-0 record (1.32 GAA, .963 SV%, 1 SO), highlighted by a career-high 49 save outing, the third most by a @NYIslanders goaltender in a shutout, and helped New York (15-8-0, 30 points) go 4-0-0. #NHLStats: https://t.co/SHtoa9jOlV https://t.co/Pp3fsswyaS" / Twitter
How do you go from playing a great game to one of your most hapless games of the season?…the fisherman is the only answer.
Nice to come back and get a point in Boston last night with a 4-3 SO loss. When they fell behind 2-0, I thought for sure this was going to be a regulation loss. The last 3 games 1-1-1 against good teams vs NJ, CAR, BOS. Considering the injuries, they currently have, I will take 3 out of 6 points against those teams.
It won’t take many more losses like this for the discussion to go from who they should trade for to who they should trade away. Too many losses against bad teams is becoming a pattern.
And the most confusing Isles team I can recall continues to follow up terrible games with a good game. Hopefully Raty can put to bed any nonsensical trade scenarios for Bo Horvat. If we trade for anyone it should be a forward or Chychrun.
