After his mother accused him of not running hard, he admitted that she was right! I specifically remember that. Yes, but he only compiled all that yardage because he extended his career by staying healthy from not fighting for extra yards and by running OOB. IMO that's dogging it. I swear that I remember him going down sometimes even before the defender tackled him. He was never a threat to go all the way from anywhere on the field, and imo he was too big a part of the Jets' offense for too many years. He certainly helped the team, but also held it back in other ways. He lined up so deep in the backfield so he could see better, he wound up having lots of carries for losses or no gain. There may have been games the Jets could have won instead of losing if he picked up more yards here and there. He always left yards on the field. Your point about his low yardage in the Championship Game vs Denver is spot on. He disappeared in big games. He didn't love the game, so he must not have gotten psyched up for those games and wasn't busting his butt trying to win. That's why I don't think he belongs in the HOF.
Atlanta might have been his worst game. He missed about 7 easy throws, no exaggeration. But yeah he played well Game 1 against Carolina and obviously against Tennessee. He’s shown flashes already. It’s been 5 games.
A good article, below, that talks about many things. 1. The change in use of personel against the Bengals. 2. The change in playcalling. 3. Evaluation of MW. 4. Comparison of MW to ZW. 5. Limitations and questions about MWs game. Some imteresting content here. https://www.ganggreennation.com/202...he-jets-offense-and-where-things-go-from-here The article highlighted ZWs biggest weakness and biggest strength in his desire to try to make big plays down the field passing up in easy gains. A philosophical change that IMO he has to drastically change to become a successful QB.
I'm rewatching the game to kill time before the Colts game. After the Jets made that fantastic goal line stand after the White interception, he then throws another interception deep in Jets territory to set up the tying score. Kudos to the Jets and the staff for not going into a shell after that. It had to be very demoralizing. But they continued to play hard.
