Few snap count notes I’ve noticed. - Mims led the WR’s with 59 snaps, 70% of the snaps. - Berrios and Jeff had 20 which leads to the notion that the offense was moving. For the most part Mims, Cole and Crowder got the bulk of the snaps. Moore had about 34 himself, and had very nice output despite having 4th most snaps of the WR’s. -Jets continue to stay in their nickel package…Carter played 93% of snaps with Hall and Echols almost playing all snaps. They really like MC in the slot…he’s been impressive IMO. - Davis played most alongside Mosley with Quincy getting the backup snaps to give Jarrad a breather.
https://thedraftnetwork.com/articles/michael-carter-new-york-jets-stats-breakout Do we have a true RB1 now?? Mike White's performance, justifiably so, overshadowed a truly exceptional performance by Michael Carter.
We had him the whole time, we just somehow had no idea how to use him. And let's not discount Ty Johnson either. When used properly the two of them are a GREAT duo. We'll see where it goes from here but there's no doubt in my mind Carter is our guy. I don't think we want him catching 9 balls a game but if he gets 20 touches then MLF is calling a good game.
This is somewhat unrelated but I saw the clip of Jameis Winston dancing in the saints locker room after their win. It was lit in there legit party. Anyone know if the Jets do anything similar?
Lmaooo how did You find this? I saw during the broadcast and couldn’t stop laughing. Love the conviction this guy is awesome.
I saw the same thing. Flacco looked pretty depressed. Contrast that to Zach who one can see in the background clapping when Saleh gives MW the gameball.
I think Zach will learn and incorporate "boring" football. I believe that he had to carry the team at BYU, and had to play "hero" ball a lot in order for the team to win. With the Jets being so bad before, in spite of Saleh's saying that Zach wouldn't have to carry the team here, Zach thought he would, especially with the WRs dropping so many passes. The self pressure mounted on him, and when coupled with the pressure of losing, and just staying on top of this complex offense, it had his head swimming and his confidence took a hit. I agree that with this injury not being serious, it could be a very good learning experience for him.
I agree. I think this has been his biggest adjustment. What he learned the first few weeks that no matter how well he played the in the structure of the offense the offense would not succeed because of poor line play, poor rb blocking and drops by receivers. He learned quite quickly the only way to score points was to make a play outside the structure of the play. To roll out and throw deep. Trying to do too much is a crutch, creates bad habits and poor decisions. Watching White throw 45 passes all 15 yards or less should demonstrate to Zach that the offense can succeed playing small ball. It is unlikely our QB will get as much time as MW had yesterday, have a clean pocket with lots of time to throw or get a soft zone defense that allows easy short completions. But, it demonstrates that the offense can succeed with a patient and poised QB. While a lot of yesterday is unlikely to replicate itself again it should be a good lesson to Zach to be patient, poised, trust his reads and be decisive. I enjoy the thrill of a ZW deep pass when it works but my preference is to watch a Pennington type methodical game like we saw yesterday. Hopefully, at some point we can get a balance of the two together.
Yeah, you would think so. However, with the exception of Namath and Testaverde, I can't remember the Jets ever making the "smart" decision over the QB position. The euphoria over White's performance needs to be tempered with the understanding that no defense had ever seen White before and therefore the Bengals had no plan to deal with him. The more White plays, the more defenses will be able to strategize to counter his ability. That's when we'll know what White's true effectiveness is. Of course, that does not mean they will be successful. There is still no consistently effective defense for Brady. Then there's the issue of upside. White may be good enough to make the Jets a winner, but can he take them to the promised land of a SB? Wilson may be slow to develop, but maybe his upside is greater than White's. All these questions can't be answered on the basis of one game.
I have no problem with a real competition in camp next season if White turns out to be good enough to take the rest of this one. Big *if* there. One of the things that White has done no matter what happens on Thursday is that ZW is on notice that there is another guy who could come in and play if he starts brain-farting all over the place as he has done fairly often this season.
I believe he's already failed. I think he was a failed draft pick. I said this all through the pre-draft process and on draft day. There's no reason absent visible evidence that this is not true to expect me to change my opinion. I do not know if you were a Jets fan in '76 and '77 but if you were you'll understand that a highly rated 1st round QB that is just not all that is fairly likely to fail in NYC. Edit: just to make it clear, I didn't have a happy day about the Jets from the moment AVT was traded up for until Mike White came out looking good last Sunday. That was all about rookie QB, rookie defensive HC, rookie OC and a GM who completely blew the 1st round. I like AVT BTW, just not at the cost of 2 potential players in the 3rd round. We didn't have that kind of talent leveraging to play with on a 2-14 team.
X Factor breaks down MW's play against the Bengals and gives a glowing review of MW and ML. As always the video breakdown is the best part and worth watching. I highly recommend watching the video. If I only got to watch one Jet video per week I would watch this guys video every week. https://jetsxfactor.com/2021/11/02/mike-white-mental-skills-ny-jets-film/
Thanks for posting this. I don't know if it's the offense or Paiva's philosophy, but I disagree with this approach. On the check down passes, White wasn't even looking at the other two WRs. Is this by design or was that just White? If by design, I don't like it. A couple of times they were wide open and with the time White had to throw, one of these could have potentially been a big gainer. I don't mean to take anything away from the great game he had, and I'm glad White does this well, and at times one probably needs to do this, but I don't want to see QB play like this every week with nothing but short throws. I want the ability to strike quickly at times and nail the bomb. It was only one game, and his first start, so maybe he was just going with the safe, easy stuff, and will open it up more later. I hope so,because based on that game I'm not sure that we'd ever see White taking deep shots. For certain, Zach needs to learn to take what the D is giving and then take advantage of that, but I love his ability to throw dimes on deep throws and fit them into small windows. He's just gotta work on his footwork and stay on platform most of the time, stop trying to force it deep, and then strike deep when he gets the opportunity. I believe he will.
It is a lot easier to make those reads with time MW had to throw but he executed very well. He kept saying it was a different offense. It was not a different offense just a different game plan. MW played really well as did the o-line.
I miss wrote. He kept saying others said it was a different offense. I do not think anyone said it was a different offense just a different game plan and better called game.
A ton of posters on Twitter have been claiming that the Jets used a new or radically changed offense this past Sunday. I think he was responding to that.
