I thought he calmed down after a while. He was still happy feet a little, but having that running game working for what it was supposed to.
Literally the only time he hit receivers in the hands was when they sat still for him. So many low passes. Locking into receivers. Not throwing it away. Lucky not to have a multiple interception game. Watching him play is hard.
From what I could see he was reading the game right, but made some bad decisions, and his accuracy was off. In light of that I think the better course of action is to keep playing him so he can work out the accuracy issues - he's not going to fix that on the bench. If the Jets had a better option at QB, it might make more sense to sit him and let him keep learning, but at this point I think he has to learn on the field.
There's no one to learn from presently on the Roster soooo, You're probably right saying that. However, what that does for Zach's career is the bigger question.
Keeping Zach Wilson on the field sets the entire offense back. At some point you have to decide whether developing the QB is worth forcing a non-developmental year for *everybody else*. If I thought Zach Wilson was a developmental QB it would be a coinflip to me however I don't think he's that good. He reminds me a lot of Richard Todd. The difference is that the Jets marketing in 1976 was all about the relatively recent great teams. Todd got to hide behind Namath at the beginning of 1976 and didn't get to the point of stuffing Serby into the locker until mid-1978. For some unbeknownst reason the modern Jets keep throwing unprepared rookie QB's of questionable talent levels out on the field whilst dancing a merry jig around them in the marketing department. That phrase above, BTW, is similar to the kind of prose that got Serby stuffed in 1978.
I think some perspective is needed here. It wasn't a pretty game for Zack, but he did hang in there and come back from a shitty start and got the W. And that's after being out for 4 weeks and not having played well before the injury. Anyone who expected him to come out and shine was unrealistic. His was far from the worst QB performance in Jets history. I'd give him a C-...if they had lost I would make that a D. It's a game he can build on.
At this juncture I have to agree We went all in on Wilson..put all the chips on his success as a Franchise QB He threw for 145 today with 1 intercept 58% There's no turning back but he's not beating any good teams at this rate...the run game is our best offense
You can live with bad decisions. What you can’t live with is less than 3 second throws to check downs and crossers being complete dirt balls. The accuracy has been really bad which is what’s scary.
You guys did not disappoint. Broke my rule of not checking this place after any game but just had to know if everyone was happy we win and Wilson had a good second half, or if everyone was self loathing and miserable. I got the right answer.
Well to be fair, the Jets aren't going to beat any good teams at this point. Zack still has all the physical tools that made JD & Co. think he's the FQB they're looking for. But there was a lot of stuff besides Wilson that wasn't working for the first 5-6 games. And even today, the pass blocking to start the game was horrendous. It was a good sign that LaFleur adjusted the plan and started calling more runs and mis-direction plays. But facing that pressure right off the bat definitely rattled Zack. By the second half though he settled down and did ok. It wasn't pretty, but it was a W and that will help everyone's confidence a lot.
It's possible to enjoy the win, but also be concerned about Wilson's play. And no, I'm not writing off Zach yet.
Did you watch the game or are you just going to constantly complain about the fan bases observations at all times? He threw for 101 yards in the second half and 145 total against a team that yields 255 through the air a game. The fact that it’s classified as “good” because it wasn’t a raging dumpster fire is not a good sign at all.
