I may be younger but I'm wise enough to know that in that part of the field, you go for it on fourth and short, so you don't have to get the entire first down in one play.
Going on fourth is the choice of last resort and often depends on the scoreboard. I remain of the opinion if you need fourteen you don't call a twelve yard pass play in traffic and hope for yards after the catch.
Watched the game last night and enjoyed it, but it felt different then what I'd read about it. It was kind of like one of those situations where you hear people rave about a movie and get hyped expecting too much. That applied to the overall game, but it didn't apply to Zach. IMO Zach's game was better than the reports indicated. Sure it was nothing fancy but the few questions people had were silly. There we no bad passes or bad decisions by him. The supposed pass into double coverage was Davis being too slow off the LOS and late getting to the mark. That wasn't really a route Davis is suited for anyways. (It is a route Moore should clean up on this year.) Another misfire was actually Zach throwing it away to a player who fell down but he was really just trying to prevent a grounding call. It was a smart play to avoid a sack. I didn't see anything to ding Zach on those drives. I'd call it an encouraging start to his Jets career. However, both White and Morgan were disappointing compared to the reviews I'd read. White's stats looked good and some of his passes were good, but he threw several bad throws, even a few that were still caught. His throws were inconsistent and I'd rate his night as a shaky average. Morgan did not look very good, and that was against the dregs. He's young and inexperienced still but the overall feel reminded me of Sam, which isn't encouraging. He has a long ways to go. So, Zach was better than I expected, the two backups worse. The middle of our O-line struggled off and on all night. This is concerning because they were facing a lot of guys competing for roster spots, often 3rd stingers. Its a small sample size but there is cause for concern here. Hopefully we can get that tightened down more, and Tucker returning should help some. Our wideouts looked pretty good. If I had to nitpick, the only issue was sometimes we had the wrong players running the wrong routes, which is understandable in a preseason game to test everyone's route running. I saw a half dozen passes that would have thrived with the right receiver but failed because it was the wrong guy running the route / in the game, like the Davis pass above. Mims. I never believed that Mims was going anywhere and he had a good showing. The run where he picked up the first down was great but it was a terrible job of tackling by the Giants. Three guys try to arm tackle him. It was still a great effort by Mims. There was also a fade in the endzone to, I think Johnson, that would have been the perfect spot for Mims. If he was in there that would have been a TD. Rushing was decent, if not great. Perine got the most carries and did okay, a little better then last year. IMO Josh Adams and Ty Johnson looked the best, just like last season. Carter had 7 carries and didn't really distinguish himself yet. Defense overall was solid. Our pass rush was refreshingly dangerous. LB seemed solid. There were some shaky DB plays, like expected. Overall no big surprises. Something that got me personally excited was the offensive play designs. I've been skeptical about LaFleur and didn't want a 49ers type offense. Our passing game already looked more diverse then the niners and also had some great play designs. Like the third down conversion from Wilson to Davis - great play design. The one caveat overall is the Giants looked pretty bad and it wasn't even a question of "do we look good or do they look bad". They frequently looked objectively bad. Probably because there were a lot of no names fighting to make the roster but IMO that was a training wheels game, and our offense still only scored 10 points. The competition is going to continue to ramp up so it will be interesting to see how we handle it. That said, it was nice not being the team that looked objectively bad for once. I can already feel the funk from last season fading away. Looking forward to GB.
Still acting like a childish jackass, adding nothing of value, I see. If you care to debate any point I make why not do it as an adult and address that which I've written rather than playing out your dumbass MO of pasting irrelevant stupid memes like you did for over a year with stupid political Tweets. You're not twelve years old any more, so why act like you are? Don't screw up the football sections of the forum like you did the politics section.
I'll make sure I'm sitting if and when this actually happens.. Wouldn't want to hurt myself when I faint..
disagree on your 1st point. You have 4 downs for a reason. its old school, obsolete thinking to believe that 4th down is only for kicking or "last resort choices" your 2nd sentence I could agree with but in this instance it was just a silly preseason game. They aint gonna waste their best 15 yard pass play on the Giants in the preseason. Save that for the games that matter
If he actually watched the play rather than just bitched about it he would have seen that 3 WRs went past the 3rd down marker and that because of pressure Zach had to throw to his checkdown as Zach was being hit and thrown to the ground. Like everything else Ralebird posts there is no substance to his arguments just a bunch of senseless uniformed ranting. He doesn't post to inform, to learn, to discuss just to rant and to cherry pick reasons to justify his hate of Zach Wilson. Very sad and pathetic.
https://touchdownwire.usatoday.com/...them&utm_medium=trueanthem&utm_source=twitter Breaking down Zach Wilson's debut against the New York Giants Mark Schofield August 16, 2021 10:56 am ET Preseason and training camp are about process, not results. It is a time to lay the foundation for what players can do, so that when the games start to count for real, the process is in place to lead to hopefully good results. Perhaps the best example of that idea comes to us from rookie quarterback Zach Wilson with the New York Jets. Wilson’s struggles in practice have become somewhat of a storyline in New York, with writers wondering about the number of incompletions and interceptions the BYU product was putting on the field during practices. That led to a fascinating answer from the young quarterback himself that got to the heart of what training camp is about, and what players are trying to learn before the games start for real: On Saturday night Wilson took the field for the first time as an NFL player against an opposing team, and the work that he put in during practice was evident on the field. Wilson finished the night completing six of his nine passes for 63 yards, and led two efficient drives for the Jets. Diving into his film from that night, you see evidence of the young quarterback building that sound process and foundation. In this video breakdown we’ll dive into three throws, highlighting his footwork, his mental process, motion for information, how Wilson reads coverage rotations, and more: To be fair, it was one game. One night. But these three throws should give Jets fans plenty of hope for the future…and the present.
Hamilcar made a strong case to make the team. With Zuniga hurt, Hamilcar has an OUTSIDE shot but surely may hit the practice squad with his outside rush ability.
I think it depends on Philips health. I can see them taking 9 DL, maybe even 10. Lawson, Williams, Rankins, JFM, Huff, Foley, Shepherd are all locks Phillips, Marshall, Hamiclaw Then there's Curry. I think Hamiclaw is definitely PS material.
With Phillips missing the whole offseason (I think) do you think he has a shot at making the team. Do you think they IR him? I agree that Hamilcar is PS material regardless of how he does in practice and preseason action barring his suddenly becoming dominant. If that were to happen, I guess if Curry is still hurt, he could move ahead of Curry, Zuniga and maybe Phillips on the depth chart, but I'd be shocked if that were to happen. I think he goes to the PS. Some team could claim him, however, if he continues to show up well in preseason games.
