Huff is either going to start at RDE or play a lot on passing downs. He will be a major part of this defense.
What a find from the pile of the undrafted after the 2020 NFL Draft. As far as I'm concerned, - he's making up for 2020 79th overall pick Jabari Zuniga. Am I right in that Zuniga got hurt again last night?
I think he'll be backing up Lawson initially but the ideal scenario is for him to develop into a starter some day and save the Jets a bunch of money on Lawson. Looks like the strong side rushers would be Curry and JFM and it's a pretty solid bet that JFM will be starting at that spot by the end of the season. I can definitely see them having Huff and Lawson both rushing on passing downs a lot like the play when Huff got his sack last night.
Some of the stars of the game were: Huff Marshall Vycent Smith Wilson Perrine Mimms White and Morgan The entire DL Nasrildeen The coaching staff Eichols had a really nice play on a deep ball. But Marshall looked really impressive to me. His big body seemed to be everywhere. Huff looked really good as well. Marshall and Huff would be my two stars of the game. But that play by Mimms getting the first down by dragging the entire Giants defense 10 yards was special. The Jets looked sharp and prepared. They manhandled and pushed the Giants around all game.
Oh God, right. Amazing to see zero contribution from our 3rd rounders in 3 of the last 5 drafts; 2020 - Ashtyn Davis 2020 - Jabari Zuniga 2019 - Jachai Polite 2019 - Chuma Edoga 2017 - ArDarius Stewart I know it might not be fair to evaluate 2020 so soon, - but early returns are no good. *** MMQB 2020 draft thought of trading up from A. Davis at 68 to get Jeremy Chinn at 64.
Looking WAY ahead - I think J. Marshall makes the active roster. If he hits the PS, - he could be pillaged by some other team for their 53 & we need him long term because unfortunately I think this is Foley Fatukasi's last year w/us as he hits the market next year & will get a big contract.
This is my takeaway as well. Wilson was sharp and followed the gameplan very well. I think most coaches would love to see that with a young kid. His ability allows him to do many things and I'm sure as he gets more reps this will show that. Also glad it was against 1st team offense and he made some decent 3rd down conversions. Overall satisfied for preseason game, I don't mind the attention on other QBs right now. Just want us to improve and play solid football. Carter was very good as well, he is going to be a big time player for us
Yea I meant LDE but the point is that he will be in the a lot this year. Hard to keep him off the field.
I just saw that the game is about to come on NFL Network at 10am. For those of us who missed the game last night, it’ll give us a chance to watch it!
The stark contrast between the players selected in 2020 vs 2021 really makes you start looking at how much the new CS affected the 2021 draft vs giving all that credit to Joe. Becton aside, when you take Mims' slow start into account, that draft seems kind of anemic right about now.
Going out on a Limb with previous poster who said D can be Top 10 With a young team like this it will be carried by by the Jet Defense and guys off the couch with proving $ worth like Mosley..he will act like All Pro imo. The guy Huff is a also a beast. Plus, we have a defensive Genius with R Saleh I hope Zachary W and Offense surprise us ..cause with just the run game and safe passes we will Win
The only thing that really matters coming out of last night is nobody got hurt. Having said that, its only PS 1, but I sensed that the team looked and felt a little different then it did under arguably the worst NFL head coach (and staff) of all time the past 2 pathetic seasons, which is saying a lot considering Rich Kotite once coached here. Although it counts for nothing, I was happy to win the game only because we have not done much of that since 2010. Be it pre or regular season, it still feels great to beat the Giants. Would have loved the shut out because it would have driven the annoying Bob Mama and Carl Banks bonkers LOL, although, the safety at the end was a good little zinger LOL. The Giants shill of a broadcast was beyond pathetic last night, but that's another story. The one play that stood out to me was Mims 20 yard catch to set up the TD. That guy wants to play, he wants to be here, and is a big talented horse of a receiver. Any talk of the Jets cutting him is beyond ridiculous, he s going to turn out to be a terrific player. Let us not forget he was crippled with really bad food poisoning and is regaining the strength and weight he lost after that. He will be fine. His desire in a meaningless game showed us a lot last night. Overall the Jet receiving corps should be one of the best in the entire NFL, there is a lot of talent there. We haven't seen Elijah Moore yet. Oh and to those Jet fans that wanted Mike Glennon to be the QB here a few years back, LOLLLL. The Giants need a back up QB probably more than we do because Glennon is flat out AWFUL. White did a fairly decent job last night. Not sure yet of he can be our back up, they still may sign a vet who gets cut, if that happens. All in all have to admit, I did not know what we were going to see last night, but I feel pretty good so far that we are headed to respectability. They may or may not win a lot of games this year, but one thing looks certain , they will be much more competitive then they were over the last 5-7 seasons since the Rex playoff teams.
I really wanted to see Lawson cause chaos last night but I get it… no need to have him out there for more than a series or two. The front 7 look really nice and hopefully that will help mask how inexperienced our secondary is. That’s kind of a trademark of a Saleh defense so I think we’ll eventually end up there. Also was this the most time a Jets QB has had to throw since Sanchez in 2010? Albeit against backups, I thought the OL looked good. Especially run blocking.
We had to go out so I didn't get to see the game last night but I recorded it to watch tonight. Read the stats, boxscore, and this forum, and it all sounds encouraging. I cant wait to watch the game so I can see it in action.
One thing that was amazing to watch last night was how fast and quick the ball comes out of Wilson's hand. I think this kid is going to be special
I watched this morning as well. Wilson looked poise and calm. A couple of misfires on short incompletes (one Kroft fell down and it was a hot read versus the blitz), but he did not look like the game was too big or fast for him. A lot of west coast offense style plays as well which I like for a young kid who will rely on the running game early in his career. Running game looked great. Only thing to note is a lot of Giant starters did not play - entire starting secondary sat along with most of their linebackers and a couple defensive lineman. Par for the course in preseason though.
I think you're right about draft input from the CS. In taking a 2nd look at my post about the 2020 draft (I know it might not be fair to evaluate 2020 so soon, - but early returns are no good) --- I should have been more specific in saying my reference was to the 2 3rd rounders (A.Davis & J.Zuniga). Love the Becton, Mims & Bryce Hall picks. Am liking the Perine pick == I believe we have a great 3-back rotation (Ty Johnson, Michael Carter & L. Perine). Jury still out on Morgan & Clark.
Thanks for the update. As I read the forum praise the one issue I have is when I checked the boxscore I only recognized two Giants, and one was Mike Glennon. I'm going to get swept up in the hype but also point out that will likely be the worst team, by a long shot, that our starters face this season. Still love hearing that we were solid and trending upwards.
