The cosmic forces are trying to tell me that Bill had his face smashed into an expensive LG television... ... Cosmic forces, can you tell me if Bill's mullet-headed coke fiend son had anything to do with it?
Curious....what kind of TV viewing do you require those super-black blacks ? Where does "average black levels" degrade the viewing experience for you, can you tell us what (I suspect movies or TV shows, not sports, right ?) ?
HDR 4K movies for starters. Movies with lots of CGI as well. (Aquaman). Godzilla vs Kong is a great example. Its the contrast of course that makes the deep blacks and colors pop. As far as regular TV, I'm watching MNF right now and you can see the super black contrast making all the other colors pop. I even have a light on in my viewing room and still, the colors just jump out of the screen. And I don't even use the "vivid" mode.
True black affects the entire picture, especially the color. And if you are viewing your TV in a dark room, you will definitely notice blacks that are washed out. At the end of the day you need to buy what is important to you. I bought my first HDTV in 2000. My wife at the time would say , "I can't tell the difference." This was viewing the 3 or 4 true 1080i sources that were out there. I couldn't believe she couldn't see the difference. Long story short, if it looks good to you, have at it. I know what I like (as film like as you can get) and that's what I pay for. YMMV.
