Watch it again. Barely touched him. If that amount of force knocked him over, he should be playing golf instead. Let them play, great call.
That's only the last moments of the play. Before that, while the ball is in the air and when Godwin goes to stop, Lewis has one hand on Godwin's back (even gives the jersey a little tug) and the other arm hooked inside Godwin's left arm... trying to keep from falling over as he stops his backpedal. That looks like DPI. Godwin does clear out to catch the ball and Lewis goes flying with a Lebron head flop, but the dude was already falling backwards with one foot in the air. Solid no-call.
You're not factoring in that medium sized sneezes are called defensive pass interference. If they routinely let the guys play, it would not have been. Given the flag-happy nature of referees against defensive backs, that fits the bill for an offensive pass interference. It looks like a bigger "flop" than it is because he's backpedaling/contorting his body. Jourdan Lewis and most defensive backs for that matter are not going to be able to consciously flop like NFL players or even receivers because their position is purely reactive. If they were flopping all over the place they'd be out of the league.
No. I was. That's why I was saying you could easily call that play defensive pass interference. Lewis is interfering with Godwin before it ever gets to the "push." Both interference calls are the bane of the NFL. They are so subjective. There are countless examples of made calls that look less egregious than calls that aren't made. Allowing them to be challenged was a disaster for the NFL. I think people are just going to have to get used to the fact that if it doesn't look super obvious (either way) in real time, then it probably shouldn't be called (or expected).
I'm a bigger fan of letting the boys play. Sometimes the back judge will but the side judges on either sides call it differently than the back judge. The NFL allowing for it to be challenging was a crappy appeasement strategy for Sean Payton. I actually would've been fine with it if they ever showed a willingness to reverse it but they didn't. I'm glad it's been removed though. It was a slippery slope to allowing every penalty to be challenged and games been 4.5 hours long. I think Godwin should've been called in the spirit of the rule and penalty. I'm fine with defensive backs getting a little handsy before the pass is in the air. Revis became a Hall of Famer doing that. Either way the league has to fix this penalty issue before it turns into the NBA flopfest where every other possession there's a whistle and a foul.
TB has one weakness and its at corner. This means Brady will probably throw for 50 TDs this season because so many of their games will be closer then they should be. Man they have a lot of talent. Dak looked good and overall Dallas offensive looks better than I expected. Their line did a great job holding off a talented front 7 in pass protection. And...that was OPI.
La'el Collins just got suspended for 5 for apparent drug use--dayyam. https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/32183970/source-dallas-cowboys-rt-lael-collins-suspended-5-games
Giants going for it on 4th & 17? Nope, just an attempt to draw the Broncos offsides, but Denver doesn't bite.
