Stop gap and good usually don’t run together. In the chargers case mariotta might actually draw some fans with his Hawaii ties. What are their alternative?
I haven’t heard all the details ,or anything to say it’s more than a rumor but I’d imagine they are looking at some sort of nba model with the bird rules. You draft him you get an exemption sort of thing . Not for open market acquisitions?
It's a good point. But they'd have to build protections in to prevent that from happening. While I don't think many teams are unwilling to spend money on the team, there are a couple out there. The Bengals come to mind. As good as the Titans have been in recent years I know they've spent money but they're also trending in organizational dysfunction with no one in Bud Adams family wanting to take over the team. I think revenue sharing protects it for the most part. But a quarterback having their own separate cap doesn't seem wild. I don't know how the Aaron Rodger's of the world would like it though.
I think Mariota will be a hot commodity this offseason. Bad start to this year but he doesn't turn the ball over and he can move the chains with his legs. He's had good offensive lines but he's never really had a #1 receiver either. He could be a quarterback that revives his career when meshing with a different coach in a perfect situations kind of deal.
cam newton maybe? who knows who is going to shake free at QB. teddy B also probably wants to start somewhere and NO committed to hill at QB if brees retires
Its possible with the right coaching, I wasn't a huge fan of him pre-draft, never was sold on this ability to make every throw, especially in big moments. Really nice guy tho. I remember fans bashing the Jets because we didn't lose to the Titans that year.
A ton of complaints that year about us missing out on the Mariota/Winston supposed sweepstakes. I don't think what Henry was good at fit with what Mariota was good at. And you obviously will roll with what the more dynamic player is able to do. There was a lot of hoopla this season about Henry playing way better with Tannehill under center. That's because Tannehill could capably go under center and roll with play action. Mariota is a shotgun, eyes on the defense at all times quarterback that can't turn his back. I honestly think Mariota could be a good player but a team has to be willing to do what he does well. RPO's, zone reads, and move him in space.
Idk man... its possible Mariota's just not good. Everyone's waiting on him to get good and he keeps them waiting...and waiting.. and waiting..
Could be. I mean he's regressed terribly. But this year would mark the fourth system and offensive coordinator change he had in five years. He beat the Chiefs in the playoffs in 2017 with an 88 passer rating on 31 attempts and had almost 50 yards rushing. He also had a good year in 2016 with 26 TD's to 9 picks. Those were his best two years and the only two in the same system. I think he can still be a better player than he's shown the past two years. Maybe not a franchise guy, but he can definitely be a guy that plays not to lose don't turn the ball over football. He's a better off-season option than some guys like Foles and Keenum that have gotten big deals IMO.
I’m not allowing myself to believe tb is leaving New England. I deal with enough disappointment in life.
that chiefs playoff win was kind of a fluke though. If you remember mariota threw the ball, it bounced off the defender and back into his hands for a touchdown. talk about fluky. Plus Derrick Henry ran for like a million yards in that game, so he was Tannehilled as well. I think his future is as a backup QB that can win a couple games in a pinch
I still think Mariota can be good in a college-style scheme; he never got to run of those in Tennessee.
PFT is reporting NE is prepared to offer Brady "more than $30 million." Sounds like a steaming load of horse______ to me.
I'm also not buying the Brady-Miami rumor that's floating around. Brady as a stop gap makes sense for a team that's ready to compete now but needs a upgrade at QB. Dallas makes perfect sense IMO. Heck Cleveland too.
