I think it’s an easier ask to have a young player move inside vs switching sides. Take edoga for example. He just looks uncomfortable on the left side. His feet are a mess because everything is opposite to what he does more naturally.
Also , I think edoga will be rt next year. I know everyone is calling for a new starting 5 but I don’t think we are replacing more than 3 with 2 guards being most likely. Very easily can see a line of
Beachum, rookie/free agent, Harrison, rookie/free agent ,edoga.

You're probably right about it being easier to move inside than to the other side of the OL.

I'm not sure that Edoga is a good enough run blocker to play RT. It would be great if he could improve in that regard, and be a good RT for the next 5-10 years, but I'm not going to hold my breath on that.

I agree that I don't think it's likely that we will have a totally new starting OL next season, and probably not desirable even if we could.

Edoga is going to be ok. A year in the strength and conditioning program Is going to do wonder for him.

  5. We’re getting to a point in the nfl where either

A.Teams are going to start having smaller linemen..315 Tops more likely 290 pound range
    OR

B.Teams will start drafting prioritizing much smaller more athletic college OL,bulk them up & develop them over a year or 2.

These Defensive linemen are hard to mirror & slow down now.And its not getting better anytime soon.Have to get creative on how to counter that.

Offensive lineman suffer the most from the antiquated practice squad rules and lack of a development league.

They don't play on any special teams units beyond PAT or Field Goal units in which case the starting offensive lineman could when just stay on the field for, and there's a bunch of tightends used in those sets anyways. They don't play on kickoff or punt teams and are lucky to have one thrown on a kick return unit every once in a while.

So teams can't really keep more than 9 like you would a corner, safety or linebacker.

With all of the quarterback injuries this year, in an era of the protected quarterbacks, the league might try to do something.

Hopefully it doesn't come to a 5 Mississippi count.

Probably not, but that shouldn't be surprising. Just like their grand daddy made them all rich by hiring scientists to do the work, they hire football people to do the work here. Sometimes you just end up with some asbestos in the baby powder though.

There’s an old adage that says depth is great until you have to use it.

I was a big supporter of Beachum being a decent starter. But he was absolutely terrible today. He hasn't been like that for the majority of his time year but he got abused by a half decent pass rusher.

Remember the Browns game? Myles Garrett just toyed with him that game for 3+ sacks. Beachum is okay with average/below average pass rushers but you put anyone that is good 1 on 1 vs him, and he gets beat on a regular basis. Whats sad is that he is probably this teams best lineman.

This may be a knee-jerk over-reaction, but after that display yesterday I'm tempted to take back my comment that we should keep what we have in addition to signing and drafting new linemen. It appeared to my untrained eye that some of the offensive line fiasco was due to poor coaching (this must be some way to coach down all the penalties!), but at this point I'm ready to trade our crappy linemen for some free agent crappy linemen and see what sticks to the wall! But MULTIPLE drafted offensive linemen will be the key, no?
