I don’t care if Mims has no reps. Give me 5 slants and 5 go targets to him. I’m sure he can run those routes right?
For a good football team I'd completely disagree with you. For a team that has already lost its season in October (again), I agree with you. No reason why he can't be out there catching some balls. Our QB can't throw either of those routes effectively right now though unfortunately.
It's not really as ridiculous as you think. Adrenaline can keep an injury from stiffening up. It's the same reason why if you see a guy in the NBA roll an ankle, they try to stay in the game and run on it. As soon as they come out and sit down, they're basically done for the day because the ankle tightens up and swells. It's a little different in the NFL because you actively have to play balls to the wall with adrenaline every play or else you're going to get hurt. I don't know the specifics of Sam's injury. But shoulder injuries can be a pain tolerance thing. If he sprained his AC joint I don't think it's unrealistic for him to have been still flinging the ball during that game and now the inside of his rotator cuff looks like a tomato. Could be wrong - just food for thought. If he's injured he should sit. If he's 'banged up' he should play. And either way, I'd rather see Morgan than Flacco all day every day.
I thought he would stiffen up at half-time and he had a nice deep throw early in 3q. If in fact he is hurting now, it makes me think he was given a shot or two gamenight. FWIW, I think Flacco give us "the best chance to win" against 'zona--and they don't suck btw.
That is a good point. I guess they felt he couldn't damage it more by returning, even though he was instantly sacked when he did. I just feel it is better to be safe with your franchise QB and hold him out the rest of the game. For him to return, and now possibly miss the next game, is the ridiculous part to me.
I don’t think coming back is costing him this game. The drs weigh in on whether he can do more damage. 1 1/2 hours more rest wasn’t changing anything
I honestly don’t think there is much of a shift in our offensive production from Sam to Flacco. Sam extends plays and makes something happen when something isn’t there which is huge, but I think a decent chunk of our problems on offense are Sam. Guys were getting open all game against Denver and either Sam didn’t see them, didn’t trust himself to get the ball to them, or underthrew them, which is excusable because of his shoulder injury. He flat out refuses to throw the ball over the middle, and again, guys were open for decent gains over the middle of the field on Thursday but he wasn’t throwing it. I’m not expecting it, but I could absolutely see better offensive production than what we’ve gotten the first four games. EDIT: Also, making this post caused me nothing but pain.
Sam has to escape the rush on nearly every single play he drops back. Unless Gase calls nothing but quick slants, it may be tough for Flacco to even survive a quarter with the Jets' offensive line. Expect a lot of running and short passes and more of the same terrible offense I would guess. You are right though. If Flacco hits all these open guys in stride and connects with the wide open targets, then it will show Sam is more of the problem than I realize. I don't see that happening though.
