I don't think he was calling you out by bolding that sentence. I do that to so ppl know what I'm taking about in my reply, especially if I'm replying to a long post. You're one of the better posters on here!
Mayfield has 4 WRs out and still threw 125 yards in half while it took Darnold 3 or 4 quarters to get at least that when he didn’t have one or two WRs, but yet we keep giving him a pass to say “it’s because of no offense around him?”
At #2 the Jets best option is either drafting Wilson or trading down. There really isn’t a non QB who is the 2nd best player IMO. Sewell may be a good OT but he is best suited for LT and I don’t see the point of having either he or Becton switching over to RT. I think the Jets need to go interior OL with either Seattle’s pick or at the second round. This #2 pick is really going to be interesting With how it plays out.
Our Jets have been playing decent football the last two weeks. Polishing the resumes I would guess...
I agree with this, I'm just acknowledging that Douglas may not be looking at things the way I do. He's a former OL himself, and grew up in organizations that didn't put a premium on QB play, so it wouldn't shock me if he went with the 'generational T" at #2 and looked for a QB - if indeed he's thinking of QB at all - with a later pick. But MY preference is that he take Wilson at #2 and look to add OL later in the draft.
Gase with a very conservative game plan + Jets out to an early lead. Jets winning 13-3 Darnold threw a TD Mayfield threw no TDs + had a TO There is plenty of times you can complain about Darnold, right now is not the time.
That's still far less than what you should have got for them. It's inefficient and a waste of draft capital. Great football players don't grow on trees. You can't just go out and pick another one off a tree. If you invest time, energy and resources in developing them and forming an OL unit, you don't want to turn around and break it up.
I think the thing is when you draft LTs in the top 10-15 picks of a draft you expect no less than a decade of play from them. Top 2 I want a multi pro-bowl player for 10-12 years. The economics of drafting 2 LTs back to back years just isn't sound long term planning and good use of such critical draft capital. Agents and families are so influential. One of these players is going to be unhappy knowing they are costing themselves millions of dollars playing RT. You are basically begging for problems. Than when one of them is making waves in 3-4 years, this board will be calling them selfish and "me" players when at the end of the day, it's their job and the goal should be to earn every single dollar you can in a sport that destroys people physically. I think you can draft a Qb or trade down more more picks and still sure up the O Line without drafting Sewell.
Agreed that taking Wilson or trading down is the play. And I pray you are wrong about what might be in Douglas' head. If he gets tunnel vision to the point of making a poor long term decision like this we are screwed.
