Same things were said about Lorenzo Maulden, who put up similiar college stats, had 10 sacks and 4 forced fumbles in his jr. year... He ran a 4.85 ‘40 vs 4.84 for Polite...
Look I hear you. I don't hate the players Macc took. I hate the positions. If you have a potential franchise QB and one of the most dynamic RB's, your job is to solidify the line. Who the fuck cares about another DL at #3? WHqat did Aaron Donald bring to Rams until McVay took over with an offensive philosophy? I am not mad that he picked Polite at 3rd round. I am mad that he didn't prioritize Offensive Line.
That's the problem right there. There's no need to take a chance on a guy like Polite when proven commodities with less baggage like Ferguson and Winovich were there. Not to mention passing on a good OL to protect Darnold in McGovern. I really thought OL was a bigger need at that pick. He gets analysis paralysis on these mid round picks.
Is there any one of the "whaaaa!!....I wanted Josh Allen" pillowbiters (just referring to the bandwidth hogs in particular) actually follow NCAA football? ....that is, outside of "well, I read this Draft Website guy..." or, "well I don't know much about him, but after I read up on him I'll TELL you all which end is up." Attention: Jacqui Polite (while testing poorly at the combine) is NOT just another DL but (if you've seen him, e.g. vs. Ga.) projects as a pass rushing 3-4 OLB. To repeat: double-digit sacks in the SEC, a boatload of fumbles and TFLs. Needs to man up on rush defense (not to worry our future bust #1 pick will handle that-wink). Polite's far from the #68th best player in the draft. Far from it.
You do this every year man. If you look back, how many of those guys you really wanted actually panned out?
Can't believe that ESPN is shifting coverage to ESPN2 because of the stupid NBA playoffs! Who gives a crap about them?
You've just got to trust the process. Maybe after 22 years of drafting BPA, we'll finally be able to field a solid team on both sides of the ball.
Polite is going to be a good player - just what this defense needs .......personally I liked Allen better but Polite is under rated.
No offense, but that's a really dumb way of looking at it. Drafting BPA is widely seen as the most ideal way to draft when rebuilding an entire roster. Mac inherited a fuckin mess. He spent a year purging the roster and finally found a franchise QB last year. To blame only winning 14 games in 3 years on Macs draft strategy is really stupid.
This is subjective though, you are projecting and assuming that those other two guys will be better in the NFL than the guy we picked. It's biased man, It's assumptions, It's not based around facts bro. Polite has proven a good amount in college himself, so that's not a fair assessment either. He's not picking need with his two first picks. I can't hate on it.
To be fair fan boards rarely scream names outside the top 4 or 5 guys. Why? Because most of the board has never heard of any of these guys.
Winning and not winning is the only standard I use. Macc's method isn't working and the record proves that. What is stupid, is believing that doing the same thing over and over again will one day produce a different result. If looking at 14 wins in 3 years is stupid, then looking at 34 losses is what exactly....? Macc's drafting isn't translating into wins. Sorry, but it is what it is.. and it ain't pretty.
That clinches it. If they think that Polite is better than Allen, then Mac and his scouts have no freaking clue what they're seeing and they all must go!
I can't argue with you on Polite's production, fair enough. Impressive numbers this past season. Hopefully he matures under Williams. Need an OL here soon.
I get it but if you are going to go after him for the bad, you should probably at the very least acknowledge the good too. Everyone seems to think that we are supposed to fix everything in one offseason, it's not realistic, it's a process, the team is getting better, and I would much rather go after guys that have high potential with BPA, then reach for need all the time. Been there, done that, didn't work out very well. I would like to see a new approach, something we are not accustom to, which is what Macc is doing. I'm for it.
Well, they've been busy the last 4-5 years working on those spiffy new uniforms. Can't be worrying about building a winning team when there's fashion designing to be done.
