I don’t understand this pick. Foster Moreau was on the board if you wanted a TE who can block + he ran a 4.66.
I don’t know much about him but the ESPN guys all said teams were throwing shit in the war rooms because we just picked him lol ok Surprising the way they all liked him so much Who knows
Just my observation but when you compare the other War Rooms people are working together.. Eerie to see Mac alone like hes Persona Non Grata Gut says a change is coming oh weel...time to clean a dirty white car hahaha
That’s the most mystifying thing I’ve noticed about Mac’s drafts. He takes the same exact type of players again and again, year after year... and we have an entirely different coaching staff+philosophy. It’s all very old school...
Fwiw Kiper said a few teams wanted Wesco in 4th & Mcshay said hes the 2nd best blocking TE in draft. Can play FB/H Back/In line & Split out wide
Really ? Not sure where he fits as far as draft ranking but he looks like a mauler. Will make a good tandem with Herndon if he pans out .
Apparently Baldy is big on the guy. He's talked about him before. That at least gives me a glimmer of hope for the kid.
McShay said him and Sample were the two best blocking tight ends and Kiper liked his versatility and sneaky athleticism...the bleacher report guys said Gase would love him as an h back to block and get mismatches Weird pick to me but I’ll have an open mind
Here's the analysis from NFL.com: Overview Wesco has the play strength and toughness of an NFL tight end, but he's still very raw in the passing game, which could take some time to shore up. He has a terrific demeanor as a run-blocker and the footwork to become much more consistent in sustaining blocks once he gets his hand placement corrected. Teams might view him as an early developmental prospect on the practice squad with a chance to compete for a move tight end spot in the future. Strengths Burly upper body with a broad chest and thick arms Nasty with an offensive lineman's demeanor as a block-finisher Impressive play strength at point of attack Gets early arm extension and peppers his opponent with stiff jabs Has size and aggression to kick out linebackers and open a run lane Trusted to handle pass-protection duties for star quarterback Capable staying in front of edge rushers and blitzers Began to come on late in the season as a pass-catcher Will lay the lumber as a blocker on kick-return unit. Weaknesses Can be frenetic and wild in the initial phase as run-blocker Too much lunging and needs to bring his feet with him Slows feet into move blocks, allowing opponent to wiggle away Hands regularly slide out of position when run-blocking Pounds the grass as a route-runner and lacks instincts in space Uncovering against man coverage is a challenge Slow to open and make himself available as a target Awkward hand positioning as pass-catcher *************************************************************************************************************************************** If he lives up to his strengths and fixes or minimizes his weaknesses I could see this as a good pick since they do need to upgrade the OL pass and run blocking - pass receiving for him will be a bonus. (Trying to see optimism through the tears).
