If it doesn’t work out for Lambert it won’t be because Reirden was terrible. I think this points to a desire to keep a similar defensive structure that they players have excelled in but that Lambert is more aware of the offensive changes that are required whereas Trotz was likely inflexible in the system he wanted to run.

I asked this question in a baseball forum but this is a better place. For those of you that were hockey fans prior to 1972, who did you root for before the Islelanders we're a hockey team?
If they were hockey fans, people on LI rooted for the Rangers. Lot of players lived in Long Beach and other places on the south shore.

Trotz informed the Winnipeg Jets of his decision today and intends on continuing to focus on family. Trotz acknowledged how difficult the decision was to not accept the head coaching job in Winnipeg." / Twitter
Maybe Lou knew something all along about Trotz’s long-term plans. Now hopefully he knows a few players with some speed.
Sounds like family issues forced Trotz to leave the Isles. Maybe Lou did him a favor by "firing" him so he could handle family issues.
Big news for a former Islander - Roberto Luongo has been named to the Hall of Fame. Somehow I don't see this being celebrated in Elmont all that much. Thanks for your stupidity, Mike Milbury.

James Nichols on Twitter: "I think #isles fans will eventually look back and be happy with Romanov. This was an under the radar play." / Twitter Isles trade their 1st Rd pick #13 to Montreal for defenseman Alexander Romanov. I can't say I know much about him but reading the reviews on him he will be a top 4 d-man with huge upside.
Tomorrow is the start of FA. I won't get my hopes up as the Isles usually strike out on this day but apparently we will be serious players for Johnny hockey. (19) Chris Botta on Twitter: "Expect Islanders to offer Johnny Gaudreau around 9 million per for the max 7 years. The Devils will likely offer more. But make no mistake: if Gaudreau becomes a UFA in the next few hours, Islanders are a serious player." / Twitter
When Johnny Gaudreau didn’t sign with NJ out the gate I thought he was coming to the Isles. Who the hell saw the Blue Jackets as his destination?
