Let a few too many pucks trickle to the front of the net, but prevented good shots off them; and I hate to see only 1-3 on the PP, but still as good of a start as could be hoped for.
Not many times you can say the score of a 4-0 game was closer than the game but other than the first three minutes that was total control by the good guys.
Here we go with the inconsistent play and sorry excuses this team makes. This team will be out of the playoff run halfway into the season, there is no way Islanders can continue to put the same weak forwards out there and expect different results.
I wonder if this is an Isles record starting this season off with three straight shutout scores ….4-0 win, 5-0 loss, 1-0 win.
Nice strong win, with two power play goals to boot. Varlamov with a save percentage of .988 so far this season. Sorokin who?
Probably too early to tell. The Ranger game wasn't really a fair test for him, since he got thrown in without any preparation after Varlamov got hurt in warmups. I figured that Sorokin would start this game, so it's interesting that he didn't. He's 25 years old, so I'm not sure what he would need to do to be more ready than he is now to play - certainly the KHL has to be at the level of the AHL?
He was good today. First goal was on an unfortunate 5 on 3, basically, and the second just a bad bounce.
Absolutely pathetic performance. Playing against a severely undermanned Caps team, the Isles give up the goal to lose 3-2 with 26 seconds left.
Yeah, great game by the Caps. I was really proud of the effort without basically all of their stars except Oshie. Even Backstrom and Eller were hurt in the 3rd. I will say this about the Islanders though: Mathew Barzal looks amazing. I think he is a special player.
