They don't start Greiss game 7 then I am not wasting my time watching. I expect them to lose now but with Greiss they have a shot. With Varly forget it.
I still expect us to win. Time to slow the game back down to an Islanders game. Although the Flyers weren’t getting many shots they were controlling the puck in the offensive zone and we were chasing them around.
This is not on Trotz though, he’s a Stanley Cup winning coach that does not have an Alexander Ovechkin or TJ Yoshie on the team. I have been on record saying it and will say it till I’m blue in the face, they don’t have the offensive horses to get them to the cup and win it. This series should have been over if they had an Ovechkin and/or Yoshie on this team as it’s currently constructed. We forget that this team was in first place in the beginning of the season and by the time the season was over they were second to last with their playoff hopes on life support. I will be pissed if they choke this one away but be sure that this team will not be the same coming back next year, the young skilled offensive players like Walstrohm will be on this roster next year.
I definitely don’t put this on Trotz. Vigneault has proven in this series with his absolutely atrocious challenges that he’s not as good of a coach but if he does it again to him.... Trotz had the right idea last night. We can score on them when we put shots on goal; he just couldn’t have expected 4 goals allowed in 14 shots, and his defense being as bad as they were.
I understand this was a long term plan when they hired Lou and Barry Trotz. I’m happy they are in the playoffs, I’m also happy that they have a gauge for what they need in order to get this team over the hill and into the promised land. It’s frustrating while we experience every up and down of playoff games but I’m hopeful that we are a lot closer to the Stanley cup than we have ever been. I would rather be in the playoffs than have an early finish to the season. I hope this is a recurring theme.
It's frustrating because the Isles have been the better team in this series most of the time. Last night Hart stood on his head again (especially in OT) and the Isles still put 4 past him but lost because Varly had a bad game and a few crucial mistakes that always seem to end up in the back of the Isles net. If the Isles somehow win tomorrow and lose to Tampa then I am OK with that. TB is a better team than the Isles. Philly isn't at least IMHO
You never know what will happen in a Game 7, of course, but any Islanders fan who is confident going into tonight's game strikes me as delusional.
Nothing about what I’ve seen in this series has dampened my confidence that the Isles can win this series, which inherently means confident they can win today’s game.
Why wouldn't we be confident. I get that the Flyers have won the last 2 and have momentum but all of their wins have been in OT. If Hart doesn't stand on his head then this series is already over. Game 7 anything can happen and hopefully tonight goes in our favor. Have to put Greiss in. He has played well and Varlamov seems to be cooling off. Need a strong performance in goal and I think Greiss gives the Isles a better chance right now. We will see what Trotz does.
their D has been awful, I know they love Pelech but the guy has no clue how to pass in his zone or get the puck out of their zone. Mayfield looks slow like he did at the beginning of last season. They are lucky to pick up Greene he’s the only guy that seems to know how to play in their own zone. It’s sad to watch, I played D in hockey and cringe watching their D
Obviously very happy to be wrong - complete domination for virtually the entire game. On to Tampa Bay. By which, of course, I mean on to Edmonton.
This team knew it could dominate a series in 4 or 5. Now they know they can win a game 7. Goaltending doesn’t get easier from here, but this team can win 3-2 games against the Lightning.
Congratulations, Isles fans! Making it to the Eastern Conference Final is one thing, but the Islanders' path of defeating the Capitals and Flyers makes it even more impressive. Tampa Bay will be tough, but I know for a fact that Trotz is capable of beating them in the ECF!
Huge effort and showing last night. They had been the better team, but those back to back OT losses were a little worrisome. I can see the Isles winning a longer series, but I can also see them getting the doors blown off like the Hurricanes last year. I just hope the latter is not the case.
