I would agree with this assessment for sure. Coles continued to stay angry about it, too. A Quick Coles story and then back to #86. I was two days off of Word Salad Surgery (brain surgery). The Jets were playing the Redskins away for the season opener (9/4/03). I could only watch TV with one eye open. You know those little vignettes where the players say their name and then what university they went to? Coles, now a Redskin, said, "Laveranues Coles. HIGH SCHOOL!" He didn't even want to mention where he went to college. I'm sure someone besides me remembers that, even though I had so much packing shoved up my nose and was so nauseous I barely knew what my name was. Yeah, the Jets lost, what else. I think Coles made the Pro Bowl that year.

Well, we all remember when he got robbed over that pushout in Cleveland, but does anyone remember when he was pissed over his contract? The Jets drafted Dustin Keller and brought in Bubba Franks for more money when Baker had been the starter for 3 years. I don't blame him for being mad, but it went to new levels when he kept parking his Bentley in the Team President's parking spot at The Old Dump and refused to move it. So awesome yet so teenaged girl temper tantrum at the same time; and wow, did it escalate. It reached its zenith when the Jets FO threatened him they were going to tow his car if he didn't knock it off, lol. Baker wasn't worth the $ he was asking for, but still a pretty decent player.

I remember his half-arsed attempt at a comeback, but I didn't know it revolved around him attempting to learn the playbook. He struck me as the sort of guy who likes the thought of being a star, but isn't willing to put in the work. He reminds me a lot of myself in that respect.
Yeah, second time around that was the case. Agree with you that part of it was that he thought his raw physicality would let him slide without putting in too much effort, but it turned out to be more a football smarts thing after his back injury. Thanks for the self-deprecating honesty, though. Gave me a chuckle. : )

I remember, fun days, lol. He did take it to another level. Have to give him credit. You're right, he was an ok TE, not the player he thought he was though. Think Franks took his number too.
Mitchell had incredible talent. Showed some flashes here and there. Could be a red zone threat. Good speed and could cut like a WR. Never really had outstanding steady QB play to help him either but he was definitely lacking in heart himself. Could've been like Shannon Sharpe.
Rob Moore. I had high hopes for the Jets offense after they drafted Blair Thomas and Reggie Rembert in the 1990 draft. Then they added Moore in the supplemental draft (with a pick that would ultimately cost the team Brett Favre). Little did I know Rembert would be a complete bust, Thomas would be only marginally better and Moore would be traded away after five seasons. Jets career: Five seasons (1990-1994), 306 receptions, 4258 yards, 13.9 avg. per catch, 22TDs.
