Have a boatload of pictures of my boys with him, gave out cards and never left till every autograph was signed
#94. John Abraham. 12th All-Time in NFL career sacks (133.5). Yet another former All-Time SEC great (South Carolina University). Drafted by our NY Jets during the 1st round of the 2000 NFL draft (13th overall). Say what you all may say about John Abraham (some called him "soft"), but you can not state that J.Abe himself wasn't one of the most dominant outside/edge pass rushers in which this franchise and fan base has ever witnissed. Because that, he was. He's personally one of my top 10 All-Time favorite Jets. We haven't featured an outside/edge pass rusher of his kind ever since #94 himself. The reason why Abe is one of my All-Time favorite Jets is because of the fun factor. That along with the fact that we landed an All-Time great Center in Mangold due to the trade of Abe (which i initially hated at the time). From the age of 15 to 21 i had a chance to watch that man apply pressure from the outside. And it was pretty fun. While we were on defense? And once opposing QB's were dropping back to pass? Each and every time. My eyes were literally glued to the T.V and #94. I looked for him on every play. His pass rush was a work of art. He made watching defense so much more fun for me to watch. He was an animal. And so much fun to whatch. I remember like it were yesterday. As only a 2nd year player J.Abe tied our franchise record set by both of Joe Klecko and Mark Gastineau with 4 sacks during a single game. Boy was he exciting. Against the New Orleans Saints (poor Aaron Brooks). I was literally in love with his monster pass rushing ability from that day on; and have missed it (an outside/edge pass rush) ever since he left for Atlanta. Although Nick Mangold ended up making me not hate the trade; i still always missed #94 especially while seeing him sack QB's down in ATL. What can i say. Other than my football heart has always bled defense. It was hard for me as a fan to lose #94. During his 6 year (Jets) career from 2000-2005 #94 combined for 277 tackles, 55 1/2 sacks, 19 forced fumbles, 5 fumble recoveries along with 1 defensive TD. He ended his 15 year career back in 2014 in which started back in year 2000, but not before recording... ▪ 554 total tackles. ▪ 137 1/2 sacks (4 seasons of top 10). ▪ 47 fumbles forced. ▪ 6 fumble recoveries. ▪ 1 INT. ▪ 1 safety. ▪ 1 defensive touchdown. ▪ 5x Pro Bowl. ▪ 5x Player of the Week. ▪ 2x 1st-Team All-Pro. 12th All-Time in career NFL sacks. One of the best pass rushers that's ever lived to play the game of football.
I love Marty Lyons. I still have his business cards for The Marty Lyons Foundation. He's a doll. He was also a bleeder. Gotta love it. Don't wanna mess up the tempo. #92 Tony Casillas
Great man have a picture of him with my 3 sons hanging on my wall. His foundation is very big into children's Leukemia
Shaun Ellis number 92. 72.5 career sacks with the Jets including 2 big ones on 3rd downs in our last playoff victory in Foxboro.
We all remember that 2000 NFL draft. N.Y became the first team to have ever had four 1st round draft picks. Shaun Ellis. John Abraham. Chad Pennington. Anthony Becht. Shaun Ellis has since gone down as one of my top 10 favorite N.Y Jets of All-Time. The original Big Katt. He was the definition of a grinder of the trenches. #92 was all guts and all fight. Leonard Williams has some very big shoes to fill after both wearing #92 and having a nickname of Big Cat. But if anyone deserves #92 and a Big Cat nickname it's Leonard Williams himself. From... To... I love what our new #92 Big Cat has done throughout his 1st two years in this league and as a Jet he already looks more dominant than that of our original #92/Big Katt. Made the 2015 NFL All-Rookie Team during his rookie season followed by an NFL Pro-Bowl selection as only a 2nd year player (2016). Has combined for 131 career tackles, 10 sacks, 2 forced fumbles and has played in all 32 games (31 starts). Shaun Ellis made the Pro-Bowl twice but never made an All-Pro team; now this Leonard Williams kid on the other hand he truly looks to be an up an coming and future NFL All-Pro Player for many of years to come. And he's built like an animal at 6'5 damn near 300lbs too.
Sheldon Richardson. #91. I'm actually pretty proud of Sheldon. Some young players really do learn from their off the field mistakes. Not all are arrested multiple times. Sheldon is now going on a full two years of staying out of trouble dating back to his 1st (and last) 2015 arrest. And for that i am proud of the young man and hopeful he'll stay on the right path. I actually hope Richardson dominates come 2017 and earns a long-term contract. We'll have top 5 cap space and instead of looking to sign everyone elses Free Agents; I'd much rather see us make Richardson our prized home-grown signing. Wilkerson. Richardson. Williams. That D-Line can be special for years to come and if Sheldon can impact come 2017 he'll deserve to be a part of our defense moving forward. Long term.
Dennis Byrd (#90). Rest in Heaven. Fly Jet High. An N.Y Legend. You can write a movie about this man. Place of Birth: OKC, Oklahoma. High School: Mustang (OK). College: Tulsa (OK). NFL Draft: 1989 / Rd. 2 / Pick 42 (NYJ). Career History: N.Y Jets (1989-1992). Place of Death: Claremore, Oklahoma. Over his 4 seasons Byrd recorded 110 Tackles, 28 Sacks & 1 Safetie. November 29th, 1992 vs. K.C Chiefs. "His career ended when he was paralyzed following a collision with a teammate during a game. Through rehabilitation, he later managed to walk again". "Byrd returned to the Meadowlands for the Jets' home opener on September 5th, 1993, walking to midfield as an honorary captain for the coin toss. During a halftime ceremony, Jets president Steve Gutman presented him with a trophy for the Most Inspirational Player Award, which would thereafter be called the Dennis Byrd Award". Damn. He truly showed the world that we could all believe in miricales. He beat all odds with courage, fight, heart and determination. And he walked again. A touching story to say the least. Tragic strikes. "Byrd passed away at approximately 11:15 a.m. on October 15, 2016, in a two-car collision. According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Byrd was pronounced dead at the scene from massive injuries. His death came 10 days after his 50th birthday". Jersey #90 Retired. "The Jets did not reissue Byrd's No. 90 jersey. The Jets formally retired No. 90 during a half-time ceremony on October 28, 2012, against the Miami Dolphins". He Loved his N.Y Jets. "During the week leading up to the 2010-2011 AFC Divisional matchup between the Jets and the Patriots, Byrd sent Jets' head coach Rex Ryan his tattered, cut up jersey that had been cut from his body on the day of his injury along with an inspirational letter addressed to the Jets. Ryan was so moved by this that he invited him to come out and personally address the team prior to the Patriots game. The inspired Jets carried his jersey to the coin toss prior to the game; the Jets won 28–21".
Thank you for creating this thread mr17. Always a favorite of mine. When i seen our Jets players carrying his jersey to midfield? Right then and there. In my own heart. I just knew we were going to win. I felt it. It was a calm feeling. Those focused men were not about to let Byrd down. And I think that's when Belichick and N.E had an "oh shit" moment and knew N.Y was forreal and coming for a fight. I have loved each and every Jets postseason victory since dating back to... • 1998 (Jaguars and the Keyshawn show) under Parcells. • 41-0 killing of #18 & the Colts (early 2000's). • SD win during Vilma's rookie season (mid 2000's) under coach Herm. • 2009 with wins over both Cincy & SD under Rex. • 2010 Payback/Revenge against #18 in Indy after 2009's AFC Championship Game loss. I remember each and every one as if they were yesterday too. But nothing has yet to compare to N.E of 2010. My All-Time favorite Jets game. Way better than the Monday Night Miracle. We eliminated Tom Brady, Danny Woodhead, Wes Welker, Gronk, Aaron Hernandez, Vince Wilfork & Bill Belichick (hoodie) @ N.E inside of Foxboro while advancing to the AFC Championship Game in their own home. Me and my big brother hugged, jumped up and down, high fived, yelled & celebrated like we just seen our team win the S.B. We actually eliminated the N.E Patriots and put an end to their season. Right there in front of their Boston fan base. It was awesome. I'll never forget that night. By far my favorite Jets game of All-Time. And we honored Dennis Byrd on that night too. Which makes it even more special. I'm thinking only a trip to the Super Bowl while honoring #28 Curtis Martin can top that feeling.
Is that me, or is he not wearing a jock strap? I'm not sure if I should be turned on or I should pray for his safety retroactively. OK, back to #90. Robin Cole.
