You don't buy into the definition of a word. Mind = blown.

Also, the bolded isn't necessarily obvious. People make mistakes.

I could understand your stance if I did not buy into an actual definition, your made up definition, nah.

In this case it was quite obvious but keep on defending that bastion of ethical reporting that is CNN if that makes you feel better¡

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fake_news_website
    Fake news websites
(also referred to as hoax news[3][4]) deliberately publish hoaxes, propaganda, and disinformation, using social media to drive web traffic and amplify their effect.[5][6][7] Unlike news satire, fake news websites seek to mislead, rather than entertain, readers for financial or other gain.

Can you show me evidence CNN or someone else intentionally fabricated the story to mislead people? If it's obvious you should have no trouble doing that.

Wikipedia, seriously? That is also on "Fake News Websites" not fake news. Supposedly legitimate news sites also publish fake news, big difference between entire sites devoted to it and other sites getting duped into publishing fake news. Still fake news no matter where it is published

CNN have not stated who their source was besides some anonymous "US official briefed on the matter" so either the anonymous official made it up or CNN did. A lie is intended to mislead.

Besides the fact I still don't adhere to your definition of fake news.

It's about websites because this shit wasn't a factor until the Internet came along and did away with filters. It's also possible the anonymous official made a mistake. CNN did a bad job verifying their source, but that isn't necessarily the same as lying on purpose.

Yes, because Thomas Jefferson lamenting the rampant falsehoods printed in the news was surely talking about the internet.

When Alexis de Tocqueville said, "with a scanty education and a vulgar turn of mind who played on readers’ passions. What seek in a newspaper is a knowledge of facts and it is only by altering or distorting those facts that a journalist can contribute to the support of his own views." he was surely looking into his crystal ball.

“Great Astronomical Discoveries Lately Made” in 1835 talking about the discovery of life on the moon was certainly one of the early instances of internet fake news, nope that one was also about 160+ years earlier than the internet.

The 1874 story of animals breaking out of the Central park Zoo killing dozens, still 120+ years too early for the internet.

Yep, fake news started with the internet for sure.

Hopefully you never become too crippled to work or go through hard times. Cause if you do, don't you dare ask anyone for a single cent.

Oh please, don't make it sound like there is not people out there raping the system.

As for my own situation, I learned a long time ago that I will be either ineligible for social security or medicare or they will be defunct when I come of age. I also learned long ago that my kids would never qualify for a dime in financial aid for college. In all cases I accepted that fact and planned accordingly (fortunately I'm paying less than I expected 14 years ago).

Trust me, if I become crippled or go through hard times, you don't need to worry about me asking for someone else to bail me out. But don't think for a fucking instant that because I took responsibility for myself and my family that I should accept those that rape the fucking system. They do exist.
