I don't disagree with any of this at all - at the end of the day it's what the team prefers. Sure if I had a 2 year plan for Mariota - I would take him. Are the Jets thinking that or impact player? I really don't know. I understand you favorite MM, he's a good player - I'm neutral for the most part. I'm not keying on one particular player this draft. I'm on the Cooper bandwagon myself, but I've always had other prospects in mind. Draft is a crap-shoot.

I personally believe the next class has better QBs then Mariota. Again that's my opinion. Winston is better than anyone in this class and the next IMO.

This is why I love the offseason, so much speculation and opinions. It makes for such great conversations.

Don't get me wrong, I am 100% on the MM bandwagon, but I also like other players in this draft. I just feel that being in the position we are, we need to go grab one of those QB's. If they agree with me and think Mariota is the guy, great, I will be ecstatic. If they think Winston is their guy, that's fine with me too, I see potential in him, I just don't know if he can get his act together, especially in NYC. I wouldn't be opposed to taking Cooper at all at 6 either, assuming we let Percy walk. Cooper and Decker would be a fantastic WR duo to build our offense around.

Those are my top 3 prospects in terms of not only potential but also need(MM, JW, Cooper). I don't like any of the OL, not at 6. If we trade back, that opens up a whole new avenue of discussion. Not a big fan of any of the DE/OLB prospects either, with the exception of Randy Gregory but I'm assuming he's gone by 6.

I do like other prospects so if MM and JW are gone by 6, there are a few guys I wouldn't be opposed to taking, or trading down and getting more picks. There are plenty of options, I just happen to think Mariota is the best one.

Right, but JaMarcus Russell was drafted #1 overall that year. At the time of the draft most NFLers thought he was a good pick. In 2005 it wasn't clear up until the last week or so that the 49ers were going to take Smith over Rodgers and nobody bothered to pick up the loser in the competition until 26 or so. In 2000 it was Chad Pennington on the 18. In 2013 it was Manuel on the 16 and nobody thought he was the best QB in the draft except the Bills. The runner up went outside the hit zone for QB's at 39.

2005 and 2007 were basically the same deal. Both drafts there was a possibility that whatever QB didn't get drafted at 1 would go #3 to the Browns. Both times the second QB fell to the 20s. I think it's basically the same thing. JMO.

I agree. I don't think there's a single QB in the class of 2016 that can come close to Mariota or Winston. Cook can't even shine their cleats.

Brady Quinn was the second QB. People had him going in the top 5 right up until the 5 pick. I hear what you're saying, but 2007 was definitely seen as a better year for QB's than 2005. For one thing it didn't immediately follow the best year for QB's in a generation. JaMarcus Russell was considered to among the top 3 prospects in the draft. For a time Quinn joined him in that lofty estimation. In 2005 nobody thought that either Alex Smith or Aaron Rodgers was even top 10 material. The storyline was: The 49ers are desperate for a QB on the 1 pick and they're going to take one of these guys, the other guy will probably drop like a stone.

That is the way I see it as of right now. Could that change? Absolutely.

However, given the situation we're in as an organization(draft position, rebuilding, etc), I would rather take a guy I feel confident in this year as opposed to waiting and taking someone next year that may or may not be as good of a prospect. There's just too much uncertainty about next years draft to pass on your potential franchise QB because we might be able to get one next year. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

Look I don't hate Cook, I actually want to watch him next year and root for him--but of the games I watched him this year he was just so underwhelming and inaccurate--not in the class of Mariota. I get that he has a foundation in a pro-style offense but that doesn't come close to making up for the absolute disparity in their talent level.

I'm sorry, in my book it just doesn't.

Having said that, if we pick him next year I'll be his biggest fan but I am not passing one of two much better QBs in the hopes he straightens himself out next year AND we're in a position to draft him.

There's no way the Jets don't go into next season looking to win 9 games. That's not necessarily a good thing but this was the year to tank and the Jets couldn't quite pull it off in the end because the fans went berserk. Jets fans deserve this team.

Junc, is that you? C'mon Brad don't do it - what do we as fans have to do with the outcome on the football field?

I wasn't in favor of tanking at all but I think the billboards made the possibility of losing a couple at the end for a pick a non-starter.

I just think we weren't a good team. How many of the Jets players from this past season can you say improved as individuals on the football field? Small # to be honest. I think injuries hurt us, but this team lost confidence after losing those games earlier in the year. It's tough to regain that confidence, we never recovered, happens all of the time in the NFL. You got conflicts with Rex and Idzik - Marty, who knows what side he was on. Woody had to look at this situation and push the reset button. Billboard or not, I think those guys were heading out the door.

There's no question that Geno should have been benched after the first 4 games. What we got out of not benching him was the rout against the Chargers that turned the season into a long downhill slide. If you sign Michael Vick to be the other option if Geno is not ready to play well then you have to honor that decision. Not doing so probably cost Rex and Idzik their jobs.

Another guy to throw in could be Brad Kaaya from Miami. Will only be a sophomore next year, but could come out if he has another good year.

How was this the year to tank? Mariota and Winston both have super high bust potential
