I don't think this will stop a team from drafting him in my opinion, especially first round. College QBs w/ sub-par completion %s have come and gone in the NFL. Russell Wilson even had 3 seasons of extremely awful completion %s. Jake Locker, extreme trash but was a 8th overall pick, but injuries really derailed his career. I think I will reserve my full judgement for the end of the year when he gets more acclimated with these receivers, I don't know any of those guys out there. I think he makes more big boy throws than any other QB prospect at this stage. He had 63, against a good team yesterday - so I will continue to reserve my judgement until the end of the year.
He hasn't improved that aspect so that has me a little worried. He still makes some amazing throws out there, but the inconsistencies are a killer. If he could've played the game like each down was 3rd down, his numbers would've been better - he was money on each 3rd down pass. I sure didn't see him lock on receivers much yesterday, plenty of times he went through his progressions - but like I said before, I don't know any of those receivers out there. I don't think Petty is 10x better, he ran an easier system in college and well you saw what happened when they both went at it at the bowl game. The guy I rooted for, went down the field and threw the game winning TD in the bowl game. I think Cook has a quicker release, and equal arm strength - Cook is a tough one to gauge, he does have inconsistencies as a QB, but he makes some of the best throws in college football, he completed 63% of his passes yesterday, so hopefully this is an upward trend. Week 1 he was awful.
Let's see how he does the next 4 weeks, because he completed 63 yesterday. Week 1, he was pretty bad. If he finishes the season with a 60+ rate, he will have the same college history as Russell Wilson in terms of completion %.
Dude I'm waiting to see it, believe me. He's a big guy with a big arm. I'm just not "wowed" yet. Not like some guys years past. _
Did you not call him the next Andrew Luck? I don't think Cook is a great college QB [as he is part of an excellent unit in MSU], but he's got several tools that translate to the next level, that's what I look for in QBs in college. He doesn't lose you games, and he can make some special throws. Cook, definitely not a finished prospect but he's certainty got the tools. Cook has a track-record in regards to making big positive decisions to win games, that's a trait not many QBs have. Everyone has bad passes, that defenders drop and that's why they play on defense.
I foolishly said that a year ago, before he regressed and fell apart. He was just coming off an amazing performance against USF in Ireland and was improving his play. And With Cook, it's more than bad passes. I don't have a problem with a Quarterback missing on Throws every now and then (like he did on that crossing route), I have a problem with quarterbacks who make a great play on 2nd down and then follow play that with a blind, predetermined throw that should have been picked off. His mistakes he are just missed passes, they're terrible ones, that can cost team games. He just doesn't do it for me , personally. There are defnitely Quarterbacks who have succeeded, despite inconsistency but for every Eli I can find ten ggiys that busted or didn't live up to the hype due to inconsistent decisuon making and inconsistency in general.
His game definitely isn't an attractive one that's for sure. He's sloppy, and erratic - but he makes some very impressive throws that make you go wow. I still see him as a mid-first rounder - so if the Jets go 8-8, he could be available. He's a Joe Flacco level prospect IMO. A sloppy version of Carson Palmer. Palmer had impeccable footwork.
Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. You need to take off your green glasses there dude. Petty was the much more impressive player in that game, by a lot. I went into that game with an open mind about both guys, I had seen the best and worst of Petty (WVU he was bad) so I was giving him my objective best. Cook I had never been wowed by but I set that aside and was rooting for him to wow me. Petty was the superior player notwithstanding the final score. Cook was BRUTAL down the stretch and even on that last drive almost threw the game away twice. He was lucky to escape with that win. Petty has a quicker release, a much stronger arm and he just looked so in command of that offense. He deserved to win that game. He was the much better QB that day and that was the game that sealed it for me and why I was and am so high on him. That game just gave me more questions about Cook. _
Oh geez I just went back and looked at the box score. Confirmed what I vividly remembered. Petty was unbelievable that day. Cook, meh. _
You can actually argue that Petty has worse deep ball accuracy - Cook has displayed the ability to put really good touch on his throws down-field and he did it like 3 times yesterday. Petty's arm is stronger, but it ain't by much. The inconsistencies however, make you think he can't make those throws. Petty had command of the easiest offense in college football, and you know how I feel about spread QBs. Cook wasn't brutal down the stretch, he won the game for Michigan State lol - though he threw an ill-advised pass that was intercepted, but the thing you get from the most is his ability to bounce back after a bad throw. Both are very high character guys. Petty vs WVU was one of the worst games I saw last year on tape.
No I didn't. He hasn't been on my radar but I'll watch this week. What's his deal? What do you like about him? _
I have followed this kid for awhile. Filmed him when he was in high school for a side job. He has LOTS of talent. great bloodlines, all the tools but he's a fuckin idiot. Kicked out of a high school team and Clemson. Dude writes multiple rap songs about himself: enjoy that terrible shit^ / there's a high school version out there too if your interested and probably an Ole' Miss version to be released soon having said that if he matures he could be good. I think he's got some d-bag friends he needs to ditch and he needs to get serious.People forget but his uncle Jim Kelly was a very immature, cocky bitch early in his career too. If Chad gets serious maybe he could have a career too. I will say about him getting kicked out of Clemson, that that was about the worst place for him to go to anyway. A cocky, immature, abrasive Northerner playing for that almost evangelical, southern, non-confrontational Dabo Swinney at Clemson was an accident waiting to happen. Hopefully getting kicked out and having to play a year of JUCO ball humbles Kelly a little bit and he certainly played well there. On the field he's got great talent but I wanna see how he looks vs. a real defense. Not so much about his abilities, but how he responds to difficulties in games. So far he's been cruising.
I googled him. You probably won't have any interest in him for all his talent. He was kicked off the team at Clemson for conduct detrimental to the team. He took verbal shots at the QB he would be competing against even before he got to Clemson. After he was benched in the spring game, he yelled at the coaches. Something was alluded to about a strong social media presence and his needing to grow up and be a better leader. He apologized, but evidently didn't learn his lesson, as he got into a bar fight in Buffalo, NYC last Dec. 21. He and a male friend were kicked out of a bar, came back and tried to get back in, then got in a fight with the bouncers. He threatened to get his car, go home and get his AK47, come back and spray the bar. Sounds like a whack job. He enrolled at Ole Miss this January, but then pled guilty to disorderly conduct for the bar fight a few days later. He'd have to have a clean slate from here on out before I'd have any interest in the Jets drafting him, but the kid can play. It's too bad, because he was one of the best looking QB prospects I've seen in a while. Granted, it was just one game, but he was that dynamic. Exciting playmaker. He's got excellent size (6'2", 215 pounds), a strong arm, looks to have a quick release, has good touch on his passes, seemed to do a good job reading the D and not forcing any throws. He's accurate and mobile. Looked to be in command of the offense. Led them to 4 scores in the 1st qtr (threw 3 TD passes and ran for one). I hadn't seen or heard of him before, but he put up 70 points in successive weeks, so he has to be doing something right. In the game he was 20 of 25 for 346 yards for a 13.8 average. He threw 4 TD passes (14, 16, 50 & 44 yards) and had a 98.1 QBR. He played on 7 drives and led them to 7 TDs. Supposedly, the HC there had been having a tough time deciding who would be the starter going into the season. After they built up a big lead, the HC put the backup QB in and the offense suddenly went flat and could do nothing. They lost momentum. He put Kelly back in, and bang, the offense immediately started moving again and scored again. He's Jim Kelly's nephew, so has some at least decent bloodlines, but if he doesn't get his temper under control, he may never get the chance to play in the NFL. He may wind up in prison instead. It will be interesting to see how he does against Alabama this weekend. Speaking of dynamic, how about our boy Mariota's debut? Damn too bad the Jets couldn't have drafted him.
ROFLMAO! I dunno, but if Ik had punched him, there'd have been a brawl for sure. Kelly doesn't seem like the type to back down.
Next game is big for Kelly. He seems to be the real deal but he needs to prove it against some of the best CFB has to offer.
