Added a couple more depth signings.. Bunch of guys will be competing for spots on the OL which is great but will we have 5 qualified enough to start is the question.
I put this in the offseason thread but it probably belongs here: According to the Jets website they have 74 players on the roster (assuming they don't lose Jarrett and Snacks to RFA) and it is not reflecting Erin Henderson, Stevan Ridley and Joe Mays which would put them up to 77 assuming all three actually sign. That leaves 13 roster spots, and if they do not trade up or down then they add 6 more players from the draft putting the total to 83, leaving them 7 players shy of the 90 player camp roster limit
If we do stick with 6 draft picks it won't matter which 7 we bring in it will be the best 90 man camp roster we've had in some time.
To be clear, I am essentially on board with any and all depth signings that are 1yr deals with limited guarantees and for near veteran minimum deals. Keep them coming. But it's interesting that they signed Jamari Lattimore, Erin Henderson and now Joe Mays. I wonder how they will utilize so many ILBs
They won't any and all may be cut. As noted above they are close to a 90 man roster now and will have to get down to 51 before the season starts.
They'll be Undrafted FA's also. When is the 90 man limit effective? They'll be a nice mix of veterans and young dudes competing, a tough competition for sure. Unlike the lip service from Izdick
You are allowed a 90 man camp roster. The UFDA's are either signed to a camp spot or a minicamp/rookie camp tryout deals after the draft. So while we can have 90+ plus guys sporting the green and white this summer (pre training camp) a max of 90 will be on contracts. We won't "officially" be over 90 guys at any time. It's just like the 53 you must cut a guy down to 52 (89) before adding back to equal 53 (90).
The best thing about these additions is that they can actually play. These competitions will actually be worthy of watching the practices and preseason games. Some of these guys who have made contributions elsewhere will not be making the team here. Idzik preached competition but never brought any in. Seeing what Mac has done in a couple short months strictly regarding the word "competition" is just another reminder that Idzik had literally no clue what the hell he was doing.
Okay, makes sense. There's not gonna be a limit to the UDFA's. Lot a guys won't make it to official camp anyway, in the end of July or whenever it actually starts.
