Thats the wrong Smith. You're thinking of Ste You got the wrong Smith. Torrey Smith was drafted by the Ravens in the 2nd round a couple years ago. You're thinking of Steve Smith.
(1) It depends upon whether those listed guys sign with their teams and actually become FAs (2) It depends upon how well they play and whether they remain healthy (3) It depends upon whether Decker can be a WR1 for us (4) It depends upon how our WR draft picks and veterans perform (5) It depends upon how healthy our WRs stay (6) It depends upon whether we sign our own FA WRs (7) It depends upon whether other WRs, now under contract, get released and become FAs (8) It depends upon our needs at other positions (9) It depends upon how much cap room we have (10) It depends upon the depth available in next year's draft (11) It depends upon whether Rex and/or Idzik are still here next season Surprised we haven't seen any Bring Back Braylon! posts.
Are the Packers WRs a product of that system and Aaron Rodgers? I like both Nelson and Cobb (especially Cobb's versatility), and I would be excited if either of those guys joined the Jets WR corps. (Unless, of course, they are considered products of an elite Qb and system.)
Thanks, but it isn't Steve Smith. There was another WR the Ravens drafted a few years ago (3-5 maybe) that hasn't done much in the league. I was thinking that was Torrey Smith, but evidently it wasn't. I don't what the guy's name is of whom I'm thinking, but it definitely isn't Steve Smith.
I don't think they are products of Rodgers or the Packers' system. I think Green Bay just has a very good eye for WRs and then knows how to develop them. It's kind of like Ozzie Newsome of the Ravens. He's a very good judge of talent with the exception of QBs. He has failed to get the Ravens a top quality QB, but he has been great with about every other position.
I pretty much agree. Other than college, I haven't seen them elsewhere, which is why I wonder about the system. But, you're right, they both look talented enough to play well on other rosters.
Just an FYI...Randall Cobb is a stud in the making. He's barely even in his prime yet and the sky's the limit for him. The guy is explosive every time he touches the ball. Just want to clarify that for some people who think he's just a "slot receiver". He's a major weapon regardless if he's 5'10 190 or 6'4 220,
I'm a huge fan of Crabtree. Very underrated player. Dez and DT are probably the best of that bunch but neither team will let neither guy go.
Kind of like how Greg Jennings went to another team and his production fell off a cliff, right? How James Jones did virtually nothing with Jordy Nelson being injured. Green Bay is good at developing receivers, sure, but having an elite QB makes a world of difference in their development and Rodgers does indeed make them better than they are.
Lol please, he's a stud because of Rodgers. another team he'd just be another good small receiver. Packers will save their money for Jordy and let Cobb walk and get overpaid by a notorious bad franchise like the raiders or us and then they will draft another 5'10 190 lb fast receiver who will step in and fill the hole because small fast receivers are a dime a dozen these days.
James Jones DID lead the league in reception tds 2 years ago..but yeah honestly he's nothing special besides that one accolade. Greg Jennings is solid, but starting to really decline. It's why GB let him go. Plus the Vikings had no QB at all. They're just smart to let those guys go. Showers don't even try. You're just sounding more, and more uneducated. This is my local team team I've been watching my whole life. I know how the team functions, and who is talented, and who is not. Saying Cobb is a product of the system is ludicrous.
I wasn't relegating him to the slot because of his size. Like Cooks and hopefully Saunders, he plays bigger than his size. I just said that because I think that's where he plays primarily for the Packers. He is explosive and has a ton of talent. Doesn't he have a problem holding onto the ball, however? I think I've heard/read something to that extent. That or a major injury are the only things that I think could keep Cobb from becoming a pretty big star.
Drops aren't a huge deal. That's Finley. He does have an injury past, but not a riddled one. It's really the only way he won't get a monster deal after this next season, but I don't anticipate much that he'll miss more than a game or 2, if any.
I hear you. Difference between Cobb and Cooks vs. Saunders is both of those guys are much more solidly built. Saunders is truly a little guy in terms of NFL height and stature. Cobb and Cooks both have NFL bodies regardless of their height. Yet I digress as I don't want to make this a Saunders thread. I have my doubts about him being able to withstand NFL physicality. Back to Cobb, I agree that he could become a well known star in the league barring injuries. Every time he touches the ball he's a threat to score.
On top of that, this last year was the first (of only 3 seasons mind you) that he missed more than a single game. It's like the argument that Stafford was injury prone after his rookie season. They are vastly different positions obviously, but I mean from an argument standpoint. As for what the thread should actually be about, I doubt we'll sign anybody for more than a couple million a season next year, because WR is just not a spot where teams give 2+ guys 7+ million a season. If they were to, it'd be for 2 elite WRs. We don't have that: we won't have that, and that's not what this team is about on offense. They'll invest more money on the OL, and on extensions before going hog wild paying like no tomorrow at the skill positions in FA.
I think Bulaga would be well served to follow his fellow hawkeye Robert Gallery & make the switch to inside at guard. He has above average power & balance...he just doesn't have great feet for the outside as he struggles w/ speed rushers. Should the Jets inconsistencies at guard continue ...he might be an Austin Howard to the Raiders kind of signing
I could see it, but it's more about the Packers o-line depth than Bulaga's actual skill set. GB year, after year drafts multiple OL in the draft (usually mid rounds) because besides this year, there hasn't been much, or needed to be much attention on the other positions on offense in the draft. I'm not trying to make it sound like GB has great depth on the line, because I don't think they do. It's the one bigger weakness on the offense, and has been for about 4-5 years now. Unfortunately, most of the O-line picks haven't worked out very well. I just think unless Bulaga takes a discount, he probably won't stick.
If you wait a few months you might see Stephen Hill on the list. I hear he's fast with Calvin Johnson potential.
