Miles saw some action on special teams last year, and that is his way onto the roster this year.
coming from a small school, i like that he's cutting his NFL teeth on ST. Gets him on the field, and helps transition to the speed of game (which in the secondary is vastly faster than what he saw in college).
Never know, could emerge as quality S depth and push Bush and Jarrett for a spot.

  2. Chris Mortensen did a short interview for the Jets official site w/ Eric Allen & he spoke very matter of factly about how the Jets "Hit" on the Mcddougle pick. Say what you will about him as an analyst but he usually doesn't make proclamations like that w/o truly solid inner knowledge. Jets must be really high on this kid. You figure they would be to put him at #2 Corner on the first day of camp. I just hope it speaks highly to Mcdougle & not poorly on Patterson

Both McDougle and Patterson have some ability playing inside at CB as well.
should be good for our overall competition and flexibility. I'm optimistic on McDougle....just needs to stay healthy.

I can see him filling the role Digs did when he was here, STs gunner and part time safety after Landry heads for the hills.

    Physically, he is a beast.

  5. We're suddenly very deep at safety. There are gonna be some very difficult decisions at cut-down among the DBs.

    Locks: Landry/Allen/Pryor/Milliner/Mcdougle

    On the fence:
Patterson: One would think he makes the team given he was a high profile signing, but Idzik has gone young in the past & look at some of these other names

Wilson: Long time nickel back. Solid, versatile but unspectacular.Does vested time save his spot? Or does he get cut in the name of Rex's commitment in creating more turnovers on D?

Walls: Is he still getting better? Can he outplay the others? Can he contribute on special teams?

Lankster: Solid dime type..another vested type. Fantastic ST gunner but what else?

    Trufant:Likely gone

Dixon: Has alot of upside but is raw. Will he contribute on ST? Can Jets sneak him onto Practice squad?

    Patrick: Likely gone

Jarrett: Always makes alot of plays in camp but yet another "in the box" type. Good on ST

Bush: Maybe ideal as the 4th safety given his exp. & range. Isn't on ST to my knowledge

    Miles: See above

You figure we keep one "fence" safety to active roster, 1 to PS. 3 CB fencers to roster & 1 to PS.

Great comparison with Digs. Let's hope he can develop into that type of role.
Bush better watch out. Haven't been impressed with his coverage, or physicality, and can't recall him contributing much on ST.

I love when players can develop while showing something on ST. Takes a toughness to make it there, and gives a real taste of both the speed and physicality of the game.
Evans better get his head out his ass, and find some impact on ST. Gunner, Coverage, whatever..
Tired of all these developmental players (Olineman, Hill, etc) who take roster spots w/o contributing much. We have too many of them. Need some to separate, even if with ST.
Also applies to Enunwa, Dixon, IK, Reilly. Heard a little on Reilly, Enunwa not even on field yet, and heard zilch regarding IK or Dixon. w/o ST impact, we'd have to take our chances with the Practice squad on those cats, or flat out cut.

It makes me sick to my stomach watching and hearing Bellicheck talk about Darelle Revis and his skill set.

Don't hate, it's 2014 and two men can love each other unconditionally now. I wish them the best, my only question is if Gronk or Brady is gonna catch the bouquet at their wedding.

I'm really liking what I am hearing out of camp this year. In past years at alot of positions it wasn't as much of a competition as much as it was, who's not good enough to make the team. This year it sounds like there are going to be a handful of guys cut from the team that will be immediately picked up by other teams, mainly in our secondary. I was more satisfied then most on here with how Idzik handled the CB situation in the offseason for this very reason. He didn't make any splashy and expensive signings but he stocked up on guys that have alot of potential. When you have only 1 guy that is a lock to be a starter (Milliner), and one other that is a lock to make the team (Wilson), it makes everyone else step their game up because they know there is a true opportunity to make the team, and maybe even become a starter. Here's a few other thoughts from me.

    - Not surprised at all from what we are hearing from Geno. The Jets have gone from the worst receiving core in the NFL, to somewhere in the 12th to 15th range, maybe even better if we consider CJ2k's catching ability. That alone is going to give him a huge boost. If he actually improves his own game as well then a massive jump from Geno really isn't that unreasonable. Vick should and will be the backup, but that's a pretty damn good backup option for the Jets compared to most teams.

    - CJ2K's signing didn't have a ton of airtime or fanfare on the big networks, but it may end up being one of the best 2 or 3 signings by any team in the offseason. If his speed is even close to where it was before the Jets are going to give teams headaches having to keep track of CJ, Geno, Decker, Kerley, Amaro, and potentially a speedy Saunders. CJ2k sounds like a changed man too. On the Titans it was always about his yards and carrying the team. Now he sounds like he really wants to be a part of the team and just be one of the guys.

    - I hate to say it but I'm not shocked by the struggles of Evans or Enunwa. These guys were solid receivers in college but they were never really great. Evans has always had problems holding on to the football as well and drove UCLA fans nuts at times. Saunders separating himself from the pack though sounds about right. The guy had 32 TD's in college and playing in 2 completely different systems at Fresno and Oklahoma. If he was 2 inches taller and 15 pounds heavier he would have easily been a 2nd, maybe even 1st round pick. His small size though made alot of teams pass on him and I think that will pay off quickly for the Jets.

    - This finally sounds like the team Rex Ryan has always strived for. Confident swagger without being cocky. Guys holding each other accountable. Players leading positional meetings. Excellent communication throughout his entire team. This is why so many Jet fans (and players), wanted Idzik to keep him. Rex may not be the best coach in the league, but I don't think there is another coach in the league that is able to maximize the potential of the players he has like Rex does. If this team can survive the early onslaught of tough teams, then a deep playoff run is a very real possibility.
