It won't happen, but Melo would provide the Heat another scorer. Wade has fallen off, so finding another dynamic scorer is important, and Melo fit that role perfectly. It would even allow SPO to make Wade our sixth man.
Say Miami signs Melo. You honestly believe that's a good move considering they would have absolutely ZERO money left to improve their bench and point guard position? How is that improving any of the areas they suffered from last season? San Antonio wiped the floor with Miami last year. A big part of that was because of the bench San Antonio has. If Riley doesn't figure that out, he's a moron
LMAO Riley getting ready for a trip to LA to recruit free agents. Report says he is pitching rings over cap space hahahaha!!! What a fuckin tool.
Well, San Antonio has extreme depth, no other in the NBA has it. San Antonio was the worst possible matchup for Miami last year. But look at games 3 ,4, and 5 the Heat had no other scorer , because Wade couldn't beat anyone off the dribble. When LBJ was out the Heat couldn't score at all. Melo would have been that guy who kept the game close, while LBJ was out. When Ray allen hads to put the ball on the floor you're screwed..... There aren't any more gamechanging PGS in this FA class. Eric Bledsode and Isaiah Thomas are RFAS so they have not shot at landing them. Sot he only pgs they chave a chance at landing are Jameer Nelson, and Vaquiz, those guys don't scream upgrade to me. Lets say the Heat conviced Melo to come, they'd still have the MLE to spread over two players, and then they would be able to get a big man like Emeka Okafor on the cheap. They'd have a team thag could go nine deep, and that is what you need if you want to win a title. This all moot, because Melo isn't coming, but the addition of Melo would benefit them greatly.
I agree with this, its gotten to the point in Miami that if Lebron doesnt have a big game, they lose. When was the last time you saw Dwayne Wade take over a game? When was the last time Chris Bosh just took over a game? At least Carmelo offers the ability to put the team on his back if Lebron isnt having a big night. From an X and O standpoint, Carmelo isnt exactly the best fit, but Wade is shot. You cant be paying him 14 million (which is what he apparently wants now) if he isnt going to show up in the finals AND miss 30 games of the regular season.
Based on everything so far, here is my analysis Miami - He could resign with them but it would only be a one year deal. Heres the issue though, if Bosh and Wade sign to, they ARE NOT taking one year deals. So if the Heat couldnt land anyone this offseason, then what makes you believe that they could land Rondo, Aldridge, Love next season? They cant. So Lebron would have to go back to Miami and tell Riley not to resign either Wade or Bosh so then next year they could go after Love. Lebron would basically have to agree to throw away an entire season which I dont believe he would do. Cleveland - It makes sense, it fits it works, its just that he would have to put his trust in the youth of Cleveland. Its entirely possible we see him do a one year deal in Cleveland. Houston - This makes more sense BUT the Rockets do not have the money at this present time. They need to trade Lins contract before they could sign him, so if Lin does get traded, I believe we could see him go here whether it be long term or short term. Bulls - I dont believe this will happen only becuase Rose's health is such a gamble Suns-This is actually a real fit if he wants to go there with Carmelo. Havent heard much, apparently Lebrons agent has spoken with them but has Carmelos agent? I just havent heard enough yet to believe that this would actually happen The last option is a sign and trade, would Riley do this to get someone like Blake Griffin? (just throwing his name out there)
I think he should go to Houston or Cleveland. He's gambling with his future signing with Miami again. The problem is, Riley put them in a real bad situation after the four years. Now they are stuck with too many bad scenarios. Lebron is a free agent right now. It's not like he has to live with it no matter what. Riley really fucked up on this one. If I'm LeBron, I go back to Cleveland. Take that city back, teach the young guys, right the wrong, and be part of a team that could win multiple championships for years. His family is from Cleveland and they visit there every year. Make it a story book ending to your career. How are you shocked? The Knicks have money to give him a max deal and they have a guy by the name of Phil Jackson. If Melo stays with the Knicks, he gets maximum money and if he let's it play out for a year, they will have more money than God to blow in the following offseason.
I was under the impression, Melo wanted to win next season. Next season could be worse then last season for the Knicks. Granted, I understand the allure of Phil Jackson - but he hasn't proved anything at this stage in regards to FO acquisitions. There are a lot of unknown factors. Is Derek Fisher a good coach? Will Dolan get involved again if things go sour next season? I would hate for Dolan to be my boss.
I dont think Riley put them in this situation, it was kinda brewing since the day they came together. Last offseason, there wasnt much that Pat Riley could have done differently, they couldnt really trade anyone during the season either. So basically the position they are in now, it was bound to happen one way or another because of the contracts they signed originally. Hes fortunate Bosh and Wade opted out though, or else this would be even worse than what it is.
If he is willing to take year of rebuilding, the Knicks could be something special. Yeah, Jackson doesn't have a track record in New York yet, but are you willing to bet against him? A guy like him with tons of money can easily lure in the likes of Love, James, etc.
That's my point. These were contracts constructed by Riley to bring together a "big 3". There was an article I was reading earlier about how the contracts could have been set up originally to put Miami in the drivers seat in a situation like this. I can't find it now, but if I do, I'll post it. It was basically saying that Riley dropped the ball completely and was focused more on the now rather than the future.
Looks like Miami might lose another option lol "Free agent Luol Deng intrigued with Clippers sign-and-trade possibilities, sources tell Yahoo. He's expected to speak with Doc Rivers today."
