OK, just stop.......... This is a comment I've read on here too many times from too many people. Just because he's tall, fast and went to GT, he will NEVER be Calvin Johnson, who is on his way to 1st ballot HOF, and arguably the best WR prospect in decades, including Randy Moss. The only reason he wasn't chosen #1 overall is because Al Davis was old and senile. If we're lucky, MAYBE he becomes Demarius Thomas lite. That being said, I don't think they should cut Hill BEFORE this season to see if things click with a REAL Offensive Coordinator (and hopefully QB), but I'm also not ready to lead his parade. * * I also wanted Alshon Jefferey, but people argued the "M" word, because too many people have a hard-on watching dudes run in shorts at the human cattle auction (The Combine) This is the NFL, not NBA, I want production, not measurables.
ok I didn't word that the best, I didn't mean to say that he is the next Megatron, but he'd be a receiver in that type of mold. Hill is a total freak athlete of a human being. I'm saying that physically Hill is comparable to Calvin Johnson; he's on CJ level strictly athletically speaking. D Thomas is actually less physically gifted than Hill but I agree that's a better comparison of the player we could expect if Hill learns to catch.
The world is full of freak athletes who could never play NFL football at a high level. The question is whether Stephen Hill learns how to play football at a high level in his 3rd season in the NFL after never doing that before in his life. It's a longshot.
I agree, I want to see the QB stats--but that's because I take them with a grain of sea salt which is somewhat larger than a grain of salt, but not that much larger. If the two guys are 6 for 10 and 7 for 10, that tells me one thing but if one guy was 2 for 10 whilst the other guy was 7 for 10 that tells me something else. If one guy is throwing pics and the other guy isn't, or one guy had 4 drops and the other guy didn't, if one guy only threw dumpoffs and the other guy threw 20 yard lasers, if one guy is taking sacks and the other guy isn't? Why wouldn't you want to know that? The "controversy" is created in the minds of fans who allow themselves to be swayed. I want all the info I can get right now because my Mets suck moose cock and the offsides rule in the World Cup still has me puzzled. _
Prospects have fooled teams with college production just as often as measureables have.Measureables are all about projecting match-ups while production lends to play making ability as well as consistency. Problem with production is it allows for too many variables. What would Hill have done if he had played at say Florida or USC instead of the run heavy yellow jackets? We'll never know the answer to that. Teams Clearly bigger programs missed the boat on the kid cause no major d1 program is gonna pass on 6"4 and sub 4.4 speed with the ability to catch. Drafting players is about the whole body of work & overall profile. It all matters to some degree.Box score scouting doesn't work. Im getting tired of the Alshod Jeffery talk..can the dude have more than one good year before we annoint him?Seriously. If we had drafted him people would have bitched that hes a classic spurrier WR.Which actually furthers my whole point about production:Travis Taylor, Sydney Rice, Ike Hilliard, Reche Caldwell, Jabar Gaffney. All those guys ring a bell? They all put up major numbers in college under spurrier and were disappointing early round picks.
I didn't say we should get ultra excited or proclaim him the next Calvin Johnson, but being the best WR on field WITH Eric Decker out there is pretty cool. Maybe my memory's fuzzy, but that's the first time I remember people praising Hill like that on any day of any OTAs, minicamp, TC or preseason games. Either way, the constant bashing is unwarranted. Somebody posts a picture and sure enough you get the comment "Oh yeah, he's ready to drop another". It's like how you can't mention the name Santonio Holmes without somebody saying "cancer" or Kyle Wilson without "bust" even though it no longer applies. I consider this like a conversation, but yeah I guess it's libel not slander. It's still wrong, and still false because Hill had a very low drop % last year. It just gets old when people constantly act like this about 2nd - 3rd year players that struggle in their first couple seasons. At least give them that 2-3 years before saying stuff like. "He'll never be good." There are circumstances that haven't been in his favor. If he nails down his timing with Geno, and keeps his drop % low, we'll be in good shape. It's also like Mangolden Showers said. That Patriots drop is ingrained in our heads, so it's pretty much the only thing many think of when they think about Hill.
Hill did not have good numbers in college due to the offense that was run. He has shown very little in two years with the Jets. I hope the guy turns into the next Jerry Rice but it's fair at this point to not be overly optimistic. When you consider where he was drafted, it's alright for us Jets fans to expect a lot more than he has provided. Hopefully this will be the year, but I'll believe it when I see it.
oh yea, you can just walk down the street and find a guy that has NFL elite level grades in size, speed, agility, and leaping ability.
Hearing good things about Cumberland on twitter from reporters. Let's not forget for a stretch last october he was looking like quite the player. I am hoping for lots of 2-TE sets with Cumberland and Amaro. That could put some pressure on the defenses.
Cumberland is a talented player, hasn't proven to be a game changer, but he can be a consistent contributor, I was happy we signed him again.
It feels like he can put together one or two great games a year too. Upside is there, hopefully he continues to improve
With Decker, Cumberland and Amaro all on the field at the same time, Geno's got 3 massive targets to hit. I'm excited to see what he can do with that. It's especially good since the Pats really stepped up their corner play this offseason, so we're going to have to beat them in the middle of the field.
Here is what Cimini wrote " Smith 6 for 10 and a sack, Vick 7 for 10 and a sack. " So you tell me how your questions above were answered- how did each QB look ? The Jets FO and CS to a man have said that Smith is the starter, so yes reporters are creating a controversy. And you must be joking with your suggestion that Idzik created a controversy by improving the team and signing a veteran back up QB. Cimini won't be happy unless and until Vick outperforms Smith by some metric Cimini creates himself to justify writing about a QB controversy.
I think Hill has finally figured it out I heard him and Geno worked our a lot together this spring Also I'm loving what I'm hearing about Geno
Hearing GREAT things about Hill, Geno, Decker, Pryor, and Saunders. If Geno makes the strides he needs to, we could be in great shape heading into this season. A great running back brigade and a BIG upgrade at receiver. Excited about Decker also. Apparently he is showing some crazy skills so far. I am rooting like hell for him just to prove his worthiness outside of Manning.
Everywhere. I have the Bleacher Report app and all the reporters that are at minicamp are tweeting about it and writing articles about it. Also, MM had an interview yesterday where he said that Geno is "taking the bulls by the horn and running with it"
