Marty was a Rex hire. Coaches pick their own coordinators. The hire of Marty wasn't announced until the same day as the hiring of Idzik, but the interviews and decision was already made before Idzik was even part of the staff.
Since the Jets let go of Herm, the team has been playing a game where every few years someone takes a fall and the rest of the organization stays intact for the most part. If Rex gets fired and Izdick does not, that game continues. Terry Bradway is still a team leader in the player personnel department even though he isn't the one signing off on the decisions. Personally, I like Rex a ton and still think he can be very successful as a head coach in the NFL in the right situation. I recognize that the Jets are no longer that right situation. I won't feel good about the direction of this franchise if Rex is the latest victim of a long line of chunks of flesh. It's time for a fresh start for the NY Jets. Rex haters may feel good about seeing him go, but that doesn't change the fact that this organization is rotting at its core. Woody Johnson is the only one who can save this franchise, and I don't think he has it in him.
This team beats on me mentally to the point where some of the timelines are fuzzy without directly looking them up. What I can say for certain is this shit has gone on too long.
I am with you on Idzik, but I have more of a problem with Ryan than you do, apparently. First of all let's be clear that it is certainly possible as a matter of deduction that BOTH can be at fault. Idzik's problems do not absolve Ryan. Ryan is an issue to me because of problems with the team's performance, but not only that. Demario Davis's comments about poor practices and lack of time in the film room point to poor leadership by Ryan. The players make too many stupid plays, too, which is coming from somewhere. I think Ryan is partly at fault. But even on the personnel side, even if by default, Ryan is a problem. Quite simply I do not see overall that he helps that much. Even if Idzik is primarily behind the decisions on roster moves, we have to acknowledge Ryan has a spotty record in such regard. What great track record that Ryan has demands that others defer to him on roster decisions? I can't answer that with anythign positive. My previous post on why Ryan would probably not mind being fired does not indicate I think he should stay. I merely am noticing how he doesn't seem all that upset about what is going on, not to me anyway.
Championships '70 - '99 - 0 Championships 'oo - '13 - 0 Having trouble with the "lot more success" thing
Why is it that some of these guys feel like they need to bring in "projects" in order to prove something... is it a NY thing a Jets thing what in the hell is it... Seems like the Giants bring in projects only difference is they bring em in as free agents Cruz... Donnell... etc
I don't get how Rex gets excuses from some fans. It blows my mind. It is not that hard to comprehend what is going on when you watch a game. This year I have noticed: 1. The Jets don't have a good secondary. 2. The Jets don't have a good QB. 3. The Jets O-line is not very good. 4. The Jets offensive weapons are not good besides a healthy Decker, Ivory and Kerley. 5. The Jets have no discipline and make too many mistakes. Those are facts. Rex needs to realize this and adjust. He doesn't though. He pretends Geno is Tom Brady. He treats the secondary like Revis and Cromartie in their prime are still back there. It is embarrassing. How Jets fans don't see that, I have no idea. I have seen Jets teams with bad rosters still compete. It's called coaching. Rex is terrible at it. Good coaches adjust. Rex has a plan and sticks to it. Every other team knows this and has caught up.
John Idzik doesn't even talk to himself in the mirror. There is ZERO chance that Francesa has reliable sources that know what Idzik is planning.
I agree with the sentiment. However, when you look at what the Jets are going through, what is the top issue, coaching or talent, personally I'd give the edge to talent in this case. So with that being said, if the Jets are going to fire Rex when the talent is as much to blame for what's going on, then why should the team reward Terry Bradway with another 5 years with another head coach? It doesn't make sense to keep knocking off one guy here and one guy there. If the program works leave it in place and let it overcome this. If it doesn't work, don't stop with Rex, remove the whole thing and get fresh eyes on the program. Preferably experienced eyes.
this doesn't just happen here, there are long time guys w/ teams regardless of coach/GM across the league.
Again true, but you need to look at things on a case by case basis. Keeping Westhoff around was a great decision that made absolute sense. The Jets have had a lot of drafting issues over the years, some very questionable decisions on the personnel side. The Jets since 2000 have often overcome talent issues and played beyond expectations with a few rare exceptions. I just can't fathom a scenario where removing Rex but retaining the personnel people will improve the team. Getting rid of Rex is not an addition by subtraction move, and those who are short sighted and don't remember what it was like under other coaches will quickly bemoan the loss of Rex when this team doesn't improve.
Idzik won't be fired. He has been successful in his initial strategy -- create cap flexibility. It is very unlikely woody expected him to do so and restock the talent in two years. Idzik will be fired if he fails to build the team with the flexibility he created.
the Jets have actually drafted quite well for a long time. have we had busts? every team does but overall we have had more good than bad drafts.
Without going through every pick, I wouldn't rate the Jets a top 10 drafting team. Plenty of busts, the most recent being Jalen Saunders, by virtue that he didn't even last a season. Stephen Hill and Vernon Gholston have been the biggest setbacks draft wise.
