Excellent post. I simply do not understand those fans who reflexively defend Woody. "Hey the guy was born into tons of money and has no track record of ever accomplishing anything, so I totally believe in him!" I mean really enough already.
Bringing in the offensive guy would probably field more immediate results. I wonder if Marty goes to? Idzik picked him, not Rex.
lol....big lol...very very very astute sir. Im telling you, the last part of this schedule is going to save everyones jobs. It happens every year. I do love Rex the person. I even like him sometimes as a coach..but he is Teflon. From Manning being sit in the second half which gave us an AFC Championship visit. Lasts year incredible 2 game winning streak...do you guys remember that locker room filled with heros? Idzik....Woody telling the team...remember? We were 0-7 and finished 9-7 some may have thought. After the next couple games you will hear the pitter patter of some huge balls guaranteeing huge things...because that's what we do. Hey...deep down I have no clue whether Rex should stay or go...the only thing Im fighting for is to get rid of the cap expert from Seattle and get someone in here that can do the following. 1. Attempt to trade for...cheat...lie...and bring in a decent qb. 2. Be able to have a draft with 12 picks and perhaps bring in a receiver who can threaten for the 3rd spot...not a pro bowl guy...Im simple....the 3rd spot. 3. Same draft bring in an offensive lineman who can be asked to play and play OK if one guy goes down. 4. Bring in a CB when the roster says you have only 1 who played shitty in 14 games and well in 2. Not asking for much...just someone that knows talent somewhat. If Idzik is still making the picks next year...all is lost. Right now, Idzik and his crazy clan of pickers are sitting in their office with one job. The same job they had last year at this time....checking out next years free agents and the college draft. That's the only job they have from game 1 to draft day. That scares me.
KMP...please don't tell that to so many posters on this site...because I broke blood vessels in my neck a month ago. Ok..so if that's the case..why the F..THE F..did he not spend some of that money on CB's this past year. Why. I was told that we are saving that money to resign the incredible amount of young studs we have...the corral filled with studs..you know...Richardson...Wilkerson...ummm...Wilkerson. That's the reason we have over 22 million in cap space and 1 receiver and no dbs.
So you think Idzik, Woody, and the Jets are prepared to just sit on that money and operate at a level well below the salary cap for a long time to come? I just don't think that will happen.
Dan Quinn was an assistant coach (DL) for the our football team when I was in college (I didn't play football). Great guy, great coach. Somebody commented on whether he has the skills at talent evaluation. I think that's a valid concern, had a lot of help building that D. But he's an outstanding prospect otherwise. Another guy who was on that staff...Mike Tomlin.
Hey junc...the next time you talk to a mod..ask them if when you call a poster dumb..if that's something you could get banned for..and if they say no..then ask them well..what if someone called me a fucking idiot...is that too much? Im just wondering where that line is.
We don't know that Woody had to give the OK to sign Tebow. He may had just given Tanny a budget and said do what you want with it. Its very uncommon not to fire a coach when you bring in a GM, however, he clearly felt that the issue was Tanny and Rex was a good coach so he replaced the job that wasn't getting it done. I wouldn't have gone that route because I don't think Rex is a true HC but 2 AFC championship games gave Woody the idea that Rex can coach when the GM gives him talent. No argument here regarding surrounding yourself with football people. That has been his biggest fault. The team needs a football guy as president of the team to oversee the entire operation and have everyone report to him. Woody has failed miserably at this. I'd much rather have a guy like Woody as owner than a Dan Snyder
Got it...so dumb is cool...but someone saying you are a fucking idiot..you know..dumb..is not? Understood. Thanks bro...and don't forget to always "play to win the game"
Its amazing how a bunch of Jet fans are Met fans..Im not..but many are and they have 2 of the worst owners in sports. Sad state.
I'm guessing Ryan is not too concerned about getting fired. He's got another year on his contract after this, and I think it likely he lands somewhere else. He can just say he couldn't win here because the FO could not get him a decent Qb. Meanwhile there's downside to staying here longer, because there is no Qb solution on the horizon, and he's probably honest enough with himself to know that he and his CS are not about to make lemonade out of Smith or any other Qb "solution" Idzik is about to lay on him. Thought about a certain way, if I was Ryan I might well welcome getting fired.
You can point to his many flaws BB...but like you said..look around the league..he will be snatched up in a second which hopefully he goes to a team with at least an above average qb..and he will probably succeed. With the qb situation..again..as you stated...he would be nuts to stay here..nuts. He isn't a dummy and unless he has a full hand in the draft, he surely knows that our current GM is not a talent guy..not even close. EDIT: AT least lets put this out there..have been hinting to it..but if enough football get in to Woodys head...there is a chance Idzik leaves and Rex stays. I cant get that out of my thinking. Woody does love Rex. Woody has the NFLS ear...Im sure there are many behind the scenes telling Woody what many of us already know. IDZIK is not a football guy..he is a cap guy.
Agreed.. but if I were Ryan I'd take my balls back, bring back the swagger and go out on my own terms. Rex is just pathetic now and that won't help him down the road if he tries to get another HC job. He needs to command authority and not be a wuss like Charlie fucking Brown
1) this is just Francessa taking a stab in the dark. a guess to talk about. 2) Dan Quinn is not a better option than Rex. it is a weak choice. 3) Idzik will not be deciding on a HC, as he will rightfully be fired along with the coaches.
I wouldn't put Woody anywhere near the same category as the Wilpon's. The Wilpon's deserve what they're getting now.. an empty stadium that cost big $$ to build. Woody hasn't failed to spend $$ to field a ML quality team instead of a bunch of AAA scrubs. The Jets problems were that Tanny bundled valuable draft choices to select mediocre players then put them in Cap hell so they weren't able to bring in anyone of value. At least the team is moving in the right direction now and will have a lot of cap space next year. The issue is can Idzik spend it wisely? That is the scary part.
Work on your reading comprehension before you drag that strawman out, champ. Never said either were good talent evaluators. Happen to know the guys. Was just sharing.
