good news for the Jets in that Philly is on the verge of re-signing Riley Cooper and the Jets want Maclin so hopefully Maclin hits the market.

I said this from the beginning. Maclin would be awesome, but all indications pointed toward him staying in Philly.

We never had a shot at picking him up. Just bullshit speculation

i don't know why maclin would want to stay there when theres so many weapons.. if he had came here he would have been competed to be the #1 for sure with a rookie…. o well..not crazy about any of the wrs they all have some sorta issues..thought maclin would have been a great pick up

So ugh..i want this ware character.

    Get it done tan..wait..

    Get it done idzik!

  6. Maclin news is a bummer.I think some are being too selective in whom we sign at WR.If we can just sign a decent #2 like Sanders & draft acouple wrs..at the very least we can have an average corps with upside.Average is alot better than what we have been...awful.

    That would be fuckin sweet.

If he can stay healthy next year, him and Barnes could wreck havoc!!

Hell yeah ware coming here would give us a serious boost. our d-line is a pass rushers dream team. he could easily be in 15-20 sack form here. Not to mention Coples would benefit from it more than anyone with help on the other side AND a HOF mentor. Barnes also would benefit. i hope we do it. but were the jets

I'm coming in late to this conversation so playing catch up here's what I think about some of the main topics.

    (ILB)
Cutting Harris would be a bad move if we actually want to play for something this year. Although with him being in the last year of his contract I could see him become a casualty if a mega deal was to get put on the table and we needed the 5 mil. Demario Davis is ready, I like Harris but as stated he couldn't cover a foot with a sock.

    (WR)
As far as Jeremy Maclin goes I don't see him as any more than a #2 who's going to get #1 money coming off of an ACL tear. Can someone remind me why we didn't give the browns the 3rd round pick they were asking for Josh Gordon?...
I personally like Hakeem Nicks. I know this is controversial but I think last year was a fluke and based off that and injury history he could be had for cheap, cheap is the key. If he's not cheap I would much rather draft a Kelvin Benjamin or Martavis Bryant.

    (S)
Jairus Byrd is going to get paid big time money. A lot of that has to do with his on field production and a lot to do with his name and expectations coming out of college. I think TJ Ward would be the smarter choice as I don't think he will draw as much interest and command as high of a price.

    (CB)
Though I feel like we'll be ok at S, but we are going to have to bring someone in at CB and honestly I would rather us get someone established at the NFL level than draft another Kyle Wilson. Besides Wilson you've got a big ? with Milliner. I seen flashes last year but they were brief and far in between. I'm not writing the guy off by no means, physically he has all the tools and his college tape is awesome I'm just stating the facts. Then there's Cro who looked sub-par to be generous all year long, who knows if he can find his step not to mention he's a FA in 2015.
Here at CB lies our D's main weakness I think we should allocate a large part of the 40 mil in cap space to acquire a young talented CB in FA like Alterraun Verner or Vontae Davis. There's also Brant Grimes and Aqib Talib to consider but these are the guys I like and Grimes is all but certain to be a fin again next year and Talib will be quite expensive and even after the great year he had I'm not sure he's any better than Verner or Davis and certainly not worth a couple more mil a year than either of them.

Ugh, does that mean Nicks is the best free agent WR on the market now? I want nothing to do with him unless he's here for about $5 mil a year... and he's not signing for $5 mil a year. I'd rather trade up to draft two of Lee, Evans or Watkins than sign Nicks.

I'm just hoping that the Jets remember that the only worse thing than cutting a player a year too late is signing that player for real money after his team cuts him.

supposedly Philly and Maclin aren't close right now but they have plenty of time to work out a deal. Hopefully he hits the market.

Hopefully he realizes the Jets would probably offer him 2-3 years and more money than the Eagles would with a one year prove it deal. If Revis can come back to near form after an ACL tear and he has to run BACKWARDS, I trust Maclin will be almost just as good recovering from his knee injury.

I want Maclin on the Jets. Him along with Worilds should be our two top free agent targets.

Worilds is kind of interesting if you can get him on a mid-tier contract with not too many guarantees. The Steelers don't let young LB's go very often. Dick LeBeau is still the guy with his eyes on their talent. I can't really fathom them letting Worilds go unless they had already concluded that he was not a special player.

Giving average players star-level contracts is really bad on the cap and it's bad posture for when you need to sign your own young stars and it's not great on the field.

They have Jarvis Jones and Woodley and combine that with a messy cap situation he might be let go. I read that Worilds wants to start, if we can get him on a reasonable contract and with Rex coaching him up I think he can be really good in this system.

I think the Jets should maximize their signing potential with guys in the 3.5mil per and down range.
Guys like James Jones, McCluster, Pettigrew, OT depth (assuming Howard signed), and re-signing some guys from the 2013 roster (Folk, maybe some vets like Pace and Colon).

Also would consider 1 or 2 more splashy moves, but within reason. around 6 mil per.
Guys i'd like in that range would be Sanders and Worilds. Maybe Asamoah, albeit for less than 6, but you get the point.

The hardest move for me to assess is at the CB position. I believe Cro will be cut, and then re-negotiated with.
I don't know how his health will rebound. Do they just let him walk, and use their bigger signing on CB instead? That will really dictate what they can afford otherwise. The money is going to move faster than a lot of people seem to realize. We won't have cash for big time signings if we want to try to fill out the roster. you can forget about Ware, Byrd, Graham, etc IMO.
