not sure of his ball hawking skills but if my recollection is right Allen seemed fine in a SS role. It'd be damn awesome if he and Bush pan out as starters, supposedly Bush was shadowing Reed, hopefully something rubs off on him. Hell I'd bring Reed to TC for that purpose alone. I think those two are better then their name value suggests certainly.
I also think we should bring Reed back at the vet min. He is a great resource for guys like Allen and Bush to go to when they need advice. He's also there in case you need him in a three safety set. I like having Allen and Bush start, draft a young guy, and have Reed mentor them all.
Without speaking for Falco, I find it difficult because people believe that their uninformed opinion is as valid as informed opinion. Equal opinion is like saying your favorite color is red as opposed to blue, or you like boobs as opposed to booty. If people wanted to have a genuinely informed discussion, great, but if they want to claim their "opinion" is as valid as others who genuinely know more, it's f***ing annoying.
The fact of the matter is that reed DID replace Allen. whether or not that is why the jets brought him in can be debated but thinking the jets brought in a player for the reason of doing what they actually did is not at all an unreasonable position. It's actually a very logical and likely scenario. Referring to such as idiotic or stupid is not reasonable.
Reed did not take any snaps from allen directly since they play two completely different positions. Shit rolled down hill Reed replaced Landry/Jarette It was landry who took over the strong side. Allen has very rarely played a deep safety for us and does not belong back there. Allens role is nickle safety and spend about 80% of his snaps flirting as part of the front 7. If you didnt know by trade AA is a linebacker from college and has become a hybrid DB/LB for us where he most likely will continue to play. We still dont have an actual coverage safety on roster right now and i would seariously surprised if we dont draft two this year. First in the 1-3 rounds and a 2nd in the 5-7 rounds. If any of the young safeties on this team step up this year it will be josh bush playing the free side. (this is who was compared to ed reed last year dedication wise not allen)
Well, Antonio Allen was a 7th round pick in 2012 who was a linebacker in college but was a bit slender to play LB in the pros, but had excellent speed and cover ability for a LB. He was drafted as a safety project player. Allen had absolutely no playing time in his rookie 2012 campaign behind vets LaRon Landry and Yeremiah Bell, which was fine because he was learning a new position. Allen was making excellent strides as a starter in 2013, especially covering TEs, but towards the end of the season Rex was coaching HARD for his job. Coincidentally, Rex's favorite player he ever coached suddenly becomes available with a few weeks left in the season, and can be had for pennies. Idzik says why not at that price, so they brought him in to bolster the DB corp both through mentoring Allen, Milliner, and Bush, AND entering the rotation. Ed Reed knows Rex's system like the back of his hand and it is no surprise Rex leaned on him to help him keep his job, but the coaching staff and organization were very vocal in their support for Allen. So, that is why Reed came in, and if you ask why as opposed to saying stupid crap like "Explain that one." I would be happy to share what I know of the situation. But if you act like you've just proven someone wrong on something, yes, I'm going to say you are stupid. EDIT: I know it wasn't you who said it, but you know what I meant.
This. Allen is a SS with some man on man ability, he is not a FS. Rex has not used a true free safety in the starting lineup in his entire tenure with the Jets, save for the couple weeks of Reed.
My bad, totally forgot about him. I forgot because he was being benched for Eric Smith by the end of the season, and Rex had him traded ASAP. Rex was not a Rhodes fan, and really only played him because he was already there and too talented to sit all season.
I think AA can be a great FS. Not really worried about that position. I'd like to bring in a situational coverage SS though for the way Rex runs his D. Landry gets torched with ease in the deep pass game.
I'm jonesing for Haha Clinton-Dix, I just don't see him falling to 18 though. I would be stoked with a DB corp of Milliner, Clinton-Dix, Allen, and Walls/Wilson/Patterson/draft pick.
Well said indeed. God what a breath of fresh air your response is. Most people are clueless as to what we might have with those two young fellows.
People are obsessed with big names. People have a choice in where they can get valid information about the Jets, and I'm more than happy to either provide it or direct them where to find it. What I can't stand are posters who spout nonsense under the assumption that their "opinion" should be regarded as valid.
And if you recall Allen was projected as a late 3rd early 4th round pick. Was shocked we got him in the 7th. _
Reed played because Allen isnt that good. Reed being as old as he is at that point in his career is still better then Allen. Rex played him because he knew this and he knew Reed gave us the best chance to win and it was the obvious right choice. Reed made more plays in his limited time here then Allen made all year. Outside of the one INT for a TD, what all did Allen do the rest of the year? Everyone has a hard on for him because of one great play he made against an elite QB. He got abused by Tony Gonzalez and Gronk. The numbers dont lie. This team is in for a rude awakening if they hand him a starting spot with no competition.
He most certainly did take snaps away from Allen. Dawan Landry by far played more snaps then both Reed and Allen but Reed really had a ton more snaps then Allen did. Pre-Reed, Allens snaps were almost identical to Landrys.
