Yeah I guess we will see, im not the one getting paid the big dollars to evaluate these guys so ill let the people who are getting paid, to do their job and see what the result is.
That's a really good point... I love Rex and am still a supporter, but he has to get over his veteran favoritism, especially during the rebuilding years when young players are vastly more important than older guys.
Agreed. My biggest concern with Milliner is his inability to play the ball. I think that if he doesn't fix that, he'll get a lot more penalties called on him, fair or unfair. He showed glimpses down the stretch, but he was downright dreadful most of the season. Honestly, I think you can say the same for Geno. I think we should just hitch our wagon to those 2 for next season and see what happens. If both pan out, then great. If one does, that's fine. If neither do, then it should be interesting.
fair point but maybe Rex is the retard? The reason I say that is watching Rex leaving Cro all alone on his island time and time again last year as he got burned time and time and time again
You have to adapt to what your players are capable of doing. The worst thing you can do is ask a player to do something that he can't do at least well enough to be successful. I had the thought from mid-season on that maybe Milliner wasn't going to be a topflight press corner. This would be a disappointment for the Jets since that's what you are looking for in a #1 CB. If Milliner is an adequate press CB then maybe he's a #2 CB instead of a #1. Then the last quarter of the season the Jets started mixing some zone in, after Reed was acquired, and suddenly Milliner looked good. He was actually reading plays in front of him and playing much better than he had been running in man-to-man. If Milliner is going to be a good zone CB capable of getting the turnovers that a good zone CB generates what do the Jets do? Do they keep playing press coverage because it's Rex's chosen form of combat or do they adapt some and mix in some zone to generate the turnovers that they need and to make Milliner a good player instead of an average one? It's just an interesting set of questions at this point. Maybe Milliner turns it up in press coverage this year and we don't have to wonder about it, but if he's struggling some like last year do you change the defensive scheme back there to play to his strengths or do you just hope that he gets it eventually?
I have always thought Rex and our Defense was at its best with Rex's twist on high blitz zone coverage. With this in mind Milliner,Walls/JP/Ras,Wilson does not looks so bad.
Cromartie...? Ummm,,,,safeties have to tackle well. Cromartie has never been known to stick his head in there.
Great post. This could be the exact reason for the changes to the secondary. DRC would've been a nightmare in a zone scheme. He can't tackle to save his life.
I think the point is not that our plan was to adapt but more to say we have the ability to adapt to the situation
When they started Damon Harrison last year was he being put in a position to fail? So why is Milliner being put in a position to fail? That doesn't make sense.
People keep saying there will be more cuts later or that we could trade for someone. Can anyone think of someone that seems like a logical possibility? I'll look into it too, it would be nice to have a list of possibles so we can debate something new.
Johnathan Joseph from the Texans anyone? Houston is shopping him around due to his high cap hit... Possible trade??
