It was the right decision to go after Nnamdi. The Jets handled it wrong. Their mistake was putting all their eggs in one basket. They should've gave Nnamdi a deadline. If he doesn't let them know by this time, they'll dropout the sweepstakes.
Evan Silva @evansilva 1m Seems free agent FS Jairus Byrd's price is already coming down. Initially said to be seeking $9M per year, now reports say $8M annually.
At that time, I was hoping we would resign Braylon and Holmes and not go after Nnamdi. Instead we brought in Plaxico and Mason and we know how that ended. I see what you are saying regarding Nnamdi, maybe you check the availability - but I agree they were far too aggressive and they should have looked at other players to help their offense. 7M and you got a deal!
Byrd will have a chance to start behind one of the best front seven in the game and will hopefully be behind a growing Millner and a bad ass named Verner, with Rex coaching him. Fuck yeah, if I were him I would take that in a heart beat. Same defense as Verner, Wilkerson, Richardson, and Snacks!!
Poor tackle? Joking right? According to data from Pro Football Focus, there were 59 tackles in the NFL that played over 600 snaps last year and all of them either committed three penalties or surrendered three sacks, apart from Howard, who only had two of each.
if byrd is asking for $8 million a year SIGN ME UP PLEASE, we'd have a top tier defense for the next 5 years
In his four-year career, Verner has 11 picks and 2 forced fumbles. I think he is the top-rated FA CB. He would be an awesome signing! He would become the #1 CB and would move Milliner to #2, which would make things even better for Milliner and the Jets.
If we could get Byrd and Verner for 8 mil each I would do it in a minute and we would still have almost 33 or so left to spend on offense once we cut Sanchez.
Sanchez's fate will be determined by who we're able to sign as a backup. If the backups we want go elsewhere I could see Mark staying with us for a very reduced rate. He seems to love the NYJ despite us destroying his shoulder
I agree the top priority should've been retaining Holmes and Edwards. The important thing was to keep the receivers that your franchise QB has developed chemistry with and to maintain some stability with the offense. Instead they let Braylon walk and even after his price dropped and was willing to take way less than he originally wanted they ignored it and brought in Plaxico. Nothing wrong with bringing in Plaxico but he was nothing more than a 4th receiver at best at that point. The Jets mismanaged that 2011 offseason badly.
Wow. This would be an amazing offseason in it's own right, let alone making those signings and still having enough to sign a top tier FA on top of them.
Has anyone read the Star Ledger article? Verner wants to be one of the top paid players on whatever team with which he signs. He could also wind up a Patriot.
I saw on bleacher report , Maurice Jones Drew is being looked at as part of a "backfield by committee" thoughts? Personally, I'm not sure I'd want him.
I love him. Not sure he's a great fit but he's always been one of my favorite backs so I'm down for him joining gang green. He was playing in Jacksonville a new team with a better o-line could be the spark he needs.
