I thought our other signings were brilliant contract wise. The Pace deal surprised me because as stated by other posters most of his sacks were coverage sacks, he got a 1.5 million dollar raise and got a year older.
Colon may have sucked but he is a hell of a lot better than anybody else we have or are bringing in for a visit (nobody).
Totally agree with everything you said Heart - however, just about the enitre Upper deck (I think with the exception of Upper Prime) had their tickets slashed. I sit on the 35yrd line 8 rows up and got 5 beans per seat knocked off the price this year. All these draft picks and all the cap room under the cap (I think $40MM + with Sanchez cut), we should be aggresive and be looking to become a playoff team this year. This rebuild stuff is laughable from some that post here. What are we the fucking Mets? We dont have to wait 5 yrs for precious draft picks to develop. The future is now. With the money we have available and draft chooices we should be thinking playoffs this year at the minimum and division title no later than next yr.. SMH. Rebuild.. Fuck that. Win Now!!! In the words of the immortal Mr. Hess: I'm 51 yrs old ( I think he was 80ish?) and I want results now!!
If you consider we paid him 1M last year and apparently paying him 2.5M this year (haven't seen the contract) then yes at his age we may have overpaid him.
This was an overpay for anybody but us. Pace knows Rex's system and still performs well in it. He's not a star by any means but he understands the ins and outs of the system as well as anybody. He played 79% of the snaps last year and didn't have to come off the field in any particular front, functioning well as a DL and LB depending on what was needed of him. Is he likely to be back in 2015? Probably not but there's no reason to believe he won't make his contributions in 2014 at this point. Could he step down due to being 33 instead of 32 when the season opens? Sure, but there's just as much chance that he maintains his level of play for another season. He's been remarkably consistent in that regards over the last 8 years. You get almost the same guy every year and he hasn't missed a game to injury since he turned 30. Would I rather the Jets had tried to get younger? Yes, but I'm not sure enough about that to complain. Rex wanted him back and given all the other moving pieces that are shifting around on him I think giving him Pace was a good idea.
People its not like we gave the guy 4 years and 20 million... here we are talking about how we have so much cap space use it... yet we overpaid cause we gave a guy who played well 2.5 a year for 2 years... ya never win on here lol good for him... weather he got the numbers cause of our scheme or because he got lucky or maybe because he had good pizza that day he GOT EM and that is more than you could say for anyone but Wilk on the entire team !
Well consider he had 10 sacks last season and knows the system. That's not an overpay. Not even close.
Was hoping to get on here and see that we signed DRC... that hasn't happened... Looks like Kyle Wilson is our #2 and Milliner is our #1.. We are fucked.. Playoffs??? ha
Completely agree with @Br4dw4y5ux. 2Y/5M appears fair for Pace. It's likely that his 1.5M salary increase reflects Pace's institutional knowledge moreso than his performance last year. That being said, even though they were mostly coverage sacks, Pace did get to the QB. Yes, the Jets need to get young and better at OLB. However, experience and depth remain important to teams, especially ones that want to be successful. Based on the same logic, I'd be please if the Jets could bring back Cromartie on a fair deal. Certainly, the injury is a factor, but that institutional knowledge is irreplaceable. If everything checks out, it would be great to keep him on the squad.
I'm confussed. Millner sucks, Walls sucks, Wilson sucks, our safeties suck, How did he manage coverage sacks?
If I see Wilson trot on the field as anything but a Nickel CB, I am no longer watching until they fix it.
Not sure if the post was sarcastic, but, in any event, you're right, I was wrong about them being all being coverage sacks. Here's the quote from GGN:
Drew @DrewfromJersey 1m Maybe @EricDecker87 should try this. #Jets RT @antrelrolle26: DRC DRC DRC DRC!! We need him @Giants
Haha. That said, while there's a good chance the Lions grab Justin Gilbert with their #10 pick, what if (for whatever reason) they didn't and he were sitting there at #18, would you grab him (and wait until round 2 to grab a WR in this WR-rich draft)?
I bet if you looked at all players that had over 10 sacks you would see similar results. Sacks are sacks. He tackled the QB behind the line, preventing rushing or passing yardage.
