and we will never be if we depend on free agency. that was my point. The draft is the primary source of talent, something this organization squandered for over the hill signings
Damn Tanny and his spending! Who wants a #1 D, #1 run game, elite OL to protect your young QB, and playmaking wideouts? Please STOP with the Jimmy Johnson or Pete Carroll comparisons. Those guys were not only elite talent evaluators but they were given the reigns to run personnel. Deion, Aikman, Smith....all guys Jimmy Johnson coached against in college. Irvin, Russell Maryland, Jimmie Jones....guys he had at Miami. And not only did Carroll and Johnson have intimate knowledge of the athletes they were bringing in, but they were proven evaluators as both created dynasties. I love Rex, but he has none of those skills. The boys and the hawks didn't build their squads with prudence and cap awareness. They did it with elite talent evaluation. Outside of DL we seem to be severely incapable of evaluating talent.
Wrong, all you have to do is look at how we drafted 17 defensive lineman in the first round the last 6 years. We will go BPA regardless of what we do in FA. If we sign James Jones and Mike Evans is available at 18 and at the top of our board no way we pass.
Going after Revis made little to no sense football wise. It would have been a nostalgia move, if you could even call it that. Why in god's name would a team in year 2 of a rebuild sign a CB that's turning 30 that will command $12 mil in the first year alone? That makes absolutely no sense. Byrd got overpaid badly... signing Byrd just to sign him and say we took a chance is exactly how you end up the way we did before Idzik got here (see: Tannenbaum, Mike). And there's a really really big facet of free agency that people seem to miss... there has to be mutual interest to make a deal. You can't just say IDZIK SHOULD HAVE SIGNED _____ WTF because you have no idea what does on in a player's camp or in the front office. You DO know that players turn down teams, correct? A team can set up a visit and a player can say no thank you. It's just lazy and shortsighted to have this mindset, IMO. Its lazy because you dont want to do delve into why Idzik may not have done exactly what you wanted and it's shortsighted because you're looking at March 14th, 2014 and only March 14th, 2014.
I agree 100%, the 1st round should ALWAYS be specifically for the BPA, if you're just looking to fill holes do that with the 5th, 6th, & 7th picks.
I understand where your coming from but I saw geno outright lose more games for us that win them, that's all I'm saying.
We also coulda went 5-11 if it weren't at for 3 i must say very stupid late game penalties by the other teams but I'll take the 8-8 all day! Lol .. I blame Marty for the first pats loss... Dude wanted geno to be Brady for no reason Ivory was cookin em!
I've been saying it seems like the Jets are positioning themselves for BPA all along. However, this notion must be within reason. If you are going to take another DL because the value is there, you are cutting of your nose to spite your face. Meaning, even if the value is there, you are drafting a player who won't be starting because of a log jam of talent on the DLine.
Good for us as far as the draft goes.....“@AdamSchefter: Sounds like, I'm addition to hosting WR Steve Smith, Ravens also expressing some level of interest in Pats WR Julian Edelman.”
Manish Mehta @MMehtaNYDN 1m New Jets RT Breno Giacomini, who grew up in Mass., was a Patriots fan as a kid: "I liked Drew Bledsoe growing up." #nyj
Seth Walder @SethWalderNYDN 1m Giacomini, on playing the Patriots: "It will definitely be fun after we win that game." #nyj
Cream ALWAYS rises to the top, if that player pushes others to become even better than they already are or that player becomes elite it will only help the entire defense, remember the high tide raises all ships.
All is lost. I guess the roster is set. Cancel the season tickets. Make vacation plans for the fall/winter. Schedule ballroom dance lessons with your wives on Sunday afternoon. Maybe 2015 will be better with our the next GM and CS.
I will be as mad as anyone if we take a corner for example again this year but it shouldn't surprise anyone.
I can't disagree with this. But what does this have to do with drafting a BPA who happens to play a position in which you are absolutely stacked while neglecting other positions of need?
