8-12 mill is the going rate for a #1 corner.. look at the deal grimes and sam shields just received and they didn't even hit the market..and off the top of my head only team who has invested that ton of money into two corners are the packers.. and williams has one year left on his deal meaning he won't be paid at his salary next year.

Reports are saying Verner won't make any visits and will sign soon after the market opens. I take this as he's either signing with the Rams or Vikings seeing as we haven't figured out what to do with Cromartie yet and Verner was just a contingency plan, accourding to sources

I agree to an extent - i think you have to explore that option.

If Dee continues to progress, we should be looking at him to hold down the CB1 spot in the near future. I think in this draft or next, we should look to draft a replacement for Cromartie. Cap-wise it's smarter for the long haul. Cromartie has at least 2 or 3 more seasons of good play left in him.

I think him being injured last season changed his perceptive on how he will need to play the game. Maybe he starts relying more on technique.

Can someone please tell me why all the talk about letting Cromartie go?! Am I missing something, or didn't he play in the Pro Bowl this year and the only other starting caliber CB we have is the young and still developing Dee Milliner. Why let Cro go?!?!

It's a business decision. We save $9.5 million against the cap if we cut him. We then have a chance to re-sign him for a lot less.

We're not letting him walk unless he restructures his contract.

He's going to count for almost 14 million on the cap, including a 5 million dollar workout bonus coming up soon.

I'd assume he's got more experience than Milliner did when he came to the Jets.

I know, but who do we know for sure can take his place? What if we can't re-sign him, if someone else snaps him up? Our D is our strength, and unless they know Verner is coming aboard, or someone else who can be an above average starter right away, we risk weakening our D. We have a ton of cap space, so why can't we spend to keep him instead of overspending for mediocre FAs? I don't like the idea of letting Cro go, unless they are sure they can replace him in FA...

Looking at the stats, Nicks clearly was hampered by injuries after the Tampa Bay game in 2012, and he was raking at the start of 2013. Once the Giants hit the 0-6 mark he mailed it in. Figured they had no chance at the playoffs and knew he was hitting free agency. Would not be surprised to see him have a great year next year after looking at the numbers. Likely he'll want to go to a competent offense though, and it's scary to think of him as a Patriot.

He was one of the worst CBs in the league last year. He made the pro bowl on reputation.

But we have plenty of salary cap $ ....our D is our strength - unless they know for sure they can replace him in FA, I wouldn't risk the D over dollars and cents when we have so much cap space available.

I haven't really followed the Titans much, so I know nothing about Verner. Is he truly an upgrade? How good is he?

"Giants free agent WR Hakeem Nicks tells ESPN’s Josina Anderson that he is looking for an opportunity to join a team where he could be “the missing link” in their offense.

“Ideally this is what I want: I want to go to a team where I’m the missing link,” Nicks tellsAnderson. “There are a number of teams that I have my eye on once I hit the market. I know if I went to a place like Indianapolis I would be dangerous with a quarterback like Andrew Luck. I can see myself catching passes from Cam Newton or even Philip Rivers.

Nicks added that he is looking for a “long-term deal,” despite a report from Saturday that suggested he would be willing to consider one-year offers."

Not great news to those who want him on the Jets. Maybe it's for the best.

This team could really be a contender in one offseason. Imagine we sign Byrd, Verner, Sanders and Nicks. Draft a guy like Cooks and Jenkins. Amazing
