He did struggle last year but went to the pro bowl in 2012 and he's only 28. Obviously there are flashier options but he would be a quality starter if we don't land Byrd.

The secondary is our biggest area of need on the defensive side of the ball. We gave up way too many passes that went for td's because a corner got burned and the safety was not in a position to make a play.

We've never had an impact safety with Rex's defense, if we can get one it might take this defense from good to great. If we don't bring in any free agent safeties I would be all for bringing Reed back at least through training camp to help these guys get a better handle on the defense. It seems like we gave up way too many long plays due to miscommunication and not being lined up correctly.

I'd be thrilled with the addition of Byrd.

They have to get Byrd and pay him whatever he wants.. .We have so much cap space, it would be stupid not to.. He would instantly make that secondary better.

It has been forever since this team had a dominant safety. According to multiple sources he will most likely hit the free agency market. Idzik needs to sign this beast immediately!!

This move would instantly upgrade our secondary. We need this guy!

If there's somebody to break the bank for this off-season it's Byrd, perfect for Rex's defense... what other teams are expected to compete for his services?

I wonder if the Jets can make a move to bring Brandon Browner in here. I know he's suspended, but if that gets cleared up he is an unrestricted free agent that has baggage but it might be worth it. Idzik was in Seattle when he was brought in so who knows. Bringing in Browner and Byrd would improve the secondary. Considering Cromartie might get cut we might be looking for another CB, and Browner is a viable option.

His situation though does seem pretty bad, not sure what will happen.

Yes to Byrd. Write the check for this kid. I'll personally go pick him up at the airport

i usually don't like going after the top tier f.a.'s however this might be the exception. byrd would give the most bang for the buck in f.a. signings

If you bring in a big free agent it drives up your costs everywhere else. Everybody looks at that guy and decides to dig in their heels on their own contract situation.

If the Jets actually pay Austin Howard like he's the best RT in the NFL and then go and import one of the highest paid safeties we're going to be in cap hell again inside 3 years, probably sooner.

If we can get Byrd and Worilds our defense will be set and we can focus on offense.

There was a piece a couple of days ago saying that he might get $7M a year, which is just insanity.

Nope.. one more infraction and he is out for a year... I don't think he will be able to come to New York and not succumb to the pressure around him.

If Idzik wants to make a big time move, I would hope this is the one. Really could help shore up the back end of the defense

I dunno, the offense is more important. I'd rather see that kind of money go toward a WR or TE.
