Why not? This is the NCAA thread, not just the Villanova thread.

They should roll UCLA whom they crushed earlier in the season. Then if there is a God they'll get Duke and beat them too. Oh that would be sweet...

I meant the Jay Wright discussion, not the 2014-15 NCAA Basketball Thread

ND is my sleeper! They play tough ass defense and score in a variety of ways. I'm always going for an under dog.

They should have lost both games they have played already. Let's just fast forward to Kentucky vs Arizona in the Elite Four.

Gonna weigh in real quick on 'Nova. I was a student from '05-'09. Had a Final 4, Elite 8 & sweet 16 in 4 years. I don't think Jay has all of a sudden forgot how to coach. Every year there are at least half a dozen top teams that get upset. It sucks that it's been 'Nova recently, but I'd rather be consistently in a position to be able to be upset and hope we break through.

They played their worst game of the year at the exact wrong time, against a team that had two things, dribble penetrators and rebounding bigs, that play to 'Nova's biggest weakness. The recruits coming in are some of the best since the Fraser/Foye era. Maybe Brunson is Jay's version of Carmelo for Boheim.

Just like they did last year.. and the year before... and every year since 2009.

When are we going to start holding people accountable for this?

It's college sports. Don't get me wrong I've lived and died with this team all year, traveled to games, the whole nine yards.

But how much more weight does the last 5 years carry than the previous? Is Mike Brey all of a sudden a good coach? Is Shaka Smart overrated?

I do think Jay needs to think more about the tournament when it comes to recruiting. Finding a big that can shoot needs to be a priority. In the 4 out, 1 in, you can't have Josh Hart as the 4 for extended periods of time against more athletic bigs then you see in the Big East.

Spot on. Five of the last 6 years has seen a #1 get tossed in the round of 32. But more to your point, 'Nova (actually the Big East in general) were more of a physical brand back in the days when run-it-up Billy '132-54' Tubbs described the style of play as "ugly." When you put that much stock in 3's you're putting too many eggs in one basket. Teams that can fall back on a physically intimidating defensive presence as their "Plan B" are not as exposed when their offense isn't clicking. 'Nova on Saturday was Hilliard and zilch after that. NC State btw had some ups and downs (losing to a decent but small Wofford as well as doormats BC and Wake Forest), but they are talent-wise right up their with the big boys.

All I am saying is that the same people here who used to TORCH Huggins when he was at Cincinnatti, Lute Olson, and Jim Boeheim (Yes that's you, junc) are giving Jay Wright a complete pass. I'd like to know why?

Think Jay Wright's getting the Teflon Don treatment. Take a look at Lou Carnesscca and the number of his high seeded teams (some #1 seeds) from the 80's that all-too-often bombed out early. He and his 'loveable Louie' personna and the stupid sweater schtick got a pass.

Lute won a Nat'l title and made a bunch of FFs so I don't know who was torching him
I have seen people try to put Boeheim in the elite category so I would bring those folks back down to reality. Boeheim is still a great coach just nowhere near the greatest like some like to portray.

Wright can be a Boeheim type w/o a doubt.

Huggins? good coach, elevated mediocre programs.

So that's it? My coach is a good guy in a nice suit? That earns him a pass?
