Would that question be relevant if we were discussing UNC? I know it sure the hell wouldn't be for me if we were discussing Villanova.

And for the record, they are 5-12 in the NCAA Tournament against the AP Top 25. Beyond Pathetic.

'Nova is 18-18 since their title run in '85. since '99 they are 13-10 and take away their one run in 2009 and they are 9-9

    against seed expectation:

    since 2000:
seed 1 is epected to get to FF
    2 elite 8
    3-4 sweet 16
    5-8 2nd rd
    9-16 1st rd

    Gonzaga:
    2000: 10 seed, sweet 16: +2
    2001: 12 seed, sweet 16: +2
    2002: 6 seed, 1st rd. -1
    2003: 9 seed, rd 2. +1
    2004: 2 seed, 2nd rd: -2
    2005: 3 seed, 2nd rd: -1
    2006: 3 seed, Sweet 16: 0
    2007: 10 seed, rd 1. 0
    2008: 7 seed, rd 1: -1
    2009: 4 seed, sweet 16: 0
    2010: 8 seed, 2nd rd: 0
    2011: 11 seed, 2nd rd: +1
    2012: 7 seed, 2nd rd: 0
    2013: 1 seed, 2nd rd: -3
    2014: 8 seed, 2nd rd: 0
    total: -2

    'Nova:
    2005 sweet 16 as 5 seed, +1
    2006 elite 8 as 1 seed: 0
    2007 9 seed 1st rd: 0
    2008: 12 seed, made sweet 16. +2
    2009: 3 seed, FF. +2
    2010: 2 seed, lost rd 2: -2
    2011: 9 seed, rd 1. 0
    2013: 9 seed, 1st rd. 0
    2014: 2 seed, lost rd 2: -2
    missed tourney 2000-2004, 2012

    total: +1

pretty close and it's only the upset as a 1 seed against Wich State that really skews it. Gonzaga was one and done in tourney just 3 times and made tourney every year, 'Nova was one and done 3 times and missed 6 tourneys.

Only in your mind, junc, is a .500 record (Villanova) the same thing as a .333 record (Gonzaga).

In addition, through those years, Villanova was not HANDED and automatic Top 10 Rank by the AP as Gonzaga has been. I would expect more than a .333 win percentage against the AP Top 25 from a perennial Top 10 team.

in most of those years Gonzaga was a low seed and they made more Sweet 16s and had the same # of one and dones despite playing 5 more tourneys.

top 10 rankings or top 25 rankings have no bearing on tourney seeding.

    Your Gonzaga hate is irrational.

It's not irrational. In no sport around the globe has any organization gotten so much praise for accomplishing so little.

You can try to sugar-coat this as much as you want. A perennial Top 10 team should have better than a .333 record against the AP Top 25.

    PATHETIC

outside of the one FF run for 'Nova Gonzaga has consistently been better than 'Nova.

they are not a perennial top 10 team and again the #s themselves tell us a little bit, who and where were these games against AP Top 25 teams? get me that info and maybe you can sway me a little.

Again, junc, only in YOUR mind is a .333 record against the top Ten acceptable for a team that is consistently awarded a Top 10 position by the AP.

    PATHETIC!

I see you got that from the Wikipedia page but just glancing at it the info looks wrong. you may want to do some research before spreading that stat.

How can one possibly argue with factual analysis like this? What was I thinking?

junc, currently UNC is scheduled to play 8 games against the AP Top 25 this season. Would you be satisfied if UNC went 3-5 in those games?

UNC is the pinnacle of college basketball, there are different standards there but I think rather than just look at #s w/o context we see who they are playing, when they are playing and where they are playing.

This isn't about standards. This is about percentages. The standard of the program is taken into consideration through the sheer quantity of games each program plays. That is why UNC has 8 Games currently scheduled against the top 25, while Villanova has 5, and Gonzaga has 2.

So, since Gonzaga is being universally praised as an elite program while winning .333 games against the AP Top 25 for the past 10 years, Can I assume that would also be acceptable for UNC?

I sure as hell can tell you that I would expect better than 2-3 for Villanova this year, and we aren't Elite.

until you show me who the ranked teams were, when they played and where they played the raw #s mean nothing to me.

Gonzaga has been a better program than Villanova since 1999.

But don't you see how that statement supports MY argument? As the fan of the "inferior" program, to me, .333 against the AP Top 25 is totally unacceptable, yet for Gonzaga, it earns them Elite Status?

who cares about games against the top 25? they have made the Tourney more and fared better on average in the Tourney.

And you don't tend to face AP Top 25 teams in the tournament?
