    tougher sched
    tougher conf
    better wins
    more wins
    RPI #12(the RPI tells all!)

Davidson would have been St. John's best non conf win but Carolina also beat Ohio State

Carolina should be on the bubble for a 4 seed.

Don't be a hypocrite. By applying your rules:

tougher sched - Absolutely, a tough schedule. But you need to WIN some of the games to get credit
tougher conf - In conference play is irrelevant. All that matters is who you play out of conference
    better wins - Davidson?!?!
more wins - One win is the difference between a 5 seed and being "on the bubble"?
RPI #12 - RPI has already been deemed irrelevant

    St. John's 9-8 vs. RPI top 100
UNC 10-10 vs. RPI top 100

    UNC has severely underachieved.

if you took away the name "North Carolina" they'd be a 6 or 7 seed.

In Lunardi's latest bracketology he has Iowa as a 7 seed. Iowa at least arguably a better resume, but I think they have a better one.

8-9 vs. top 100 RPI, but a better marquee win vs. Maryland (no. 9 RPI) .. beat Ohio State twice, oh- and they beat UNC head to head.

having said all that I fully expect the NCAA won't have UNC lower than a 5 on selection sunday

Carolina should have been a 5/6 2 years ago and was an 8. should have been 3/4 last year and was a 6. stop w/ that nonsense.

    goes both ways with Okafor

for a dominant big man, he never went to the line once all game until UNC intentionally fouled to stop the clock at the end

That's b/c the officials know he is likely to miss his FTs, if he was a good FT shooter he'd live at the line:D

Nobody's claiming anything needing to be "run by them" so why are you being such an unhinged emotional basket case over this?

Note what I actually DID say:
And that was the point: merely pointing out your obsessive need to put a "greatest" spin on something/anything UNC-related. I mean, who cares? Certainly, not everybody.

And in the same spirit (when you were lecturing tbrunner):
Enjoy the rivalry, and stop the mewling.

As to the "rivalry," looking at the last dozen or so games between Duke-UNC, it appears that Duke owns an overwhelming .750 winning pct. over UNC and over the last half dozen, an even more lopsided .833 winning pct. (5-6). Some rivalry. Sounds more like Federer-Roddick. :D
And fwiw, last dozen Iron Bowls: Auburn owns a more 'competitive' 7-5 edge, with 'Bama owning that same 'competitive' 7-5 edge in the dozen games before that.

Enjoy your rivalry uncjunc - that's what it's all about.

most of the games have been really close, Carolina hasn't been Carolina in a few years and the NCAA nonsense sure isn't helping restock the cupboards but they will have an experienced team heading into the tourney this year and next year so they will have a shot. Not dominant like '05, '09 or '12 was shaping up to be pre injuries but let's see what happens.

UNC will always have a shot with their size and rebounding capabilities, esp. on the offensive end. What they need (imho) to do is to shore up their perimeter defense.

There aren't any teams out there that will pose an inside post presence along the lines of Duke's Okafor and Kentucky--maybe Wisconsin's Kaminsky, but he's more an offensive perimeter force--so UNC from a physical (and yes, talent) standpoint should not be at a disadvantage.

I think they have enough players to play well on the perimeter now that Berry and Pinson are back and mostly healthy. The big issue w/ this team is having another reliable 3 pt shooter besides Paige. duke has 5 million guys who can nail a 3 consistently, Carolina works so hard to hit one then duke will hit a barrage of them like it's nothing. I think Berry and Jackson will be good 3 pt shooters as early as next year, can they start hitting fairly consistently come Tourney time? If so they can play w/ anyone, if not they could give Roy his first defeat in the opening round.

Tonight, Gonzaga looks to ride the Pepperdine Waves out of the WCC tournament while locally, the #3-seeded Jaspers of Manhattan College renew their "greatest small-time college basketball rivalry" against top-seeded Iona (ESPN-2) with the MAAC title and an automatic bid on the line. While Iona owns the talent advantage, the Gaels are susceptible to the 'yips' esp. should their shots not fall as they're all about a run-and-gun offense and the hell with playing defense. Manhattan on the other hand is a defensively scrapy if not offensively snappy unit. But either way, at least one local will be in the NCAAs after tonight with the possibility of 3 others joining the Gaels-Jaspers winner.

Tomorrow: another local, St. Francis of Brooklyn looks for its first NEC title and automatic bid as the top-seeded Terriers square off against 2nd-seeded Robert Morris (ESPN-2).

Saturday: in the America East Conference, home of the coolest nicknames in collegiate sports (and whose tournament has turned into a nice little war), the local entry, #3-seeded Stony Brook Seawolves advance off their 79-77 upset win over the #2-seeded Catamounts of Vermont and now face the top-seeded Great Danes of Albany who themselves barely survived a 60-58 nailbiter over the Univ. of New Hampshire.

So come Selection Sunday, Iona/Manhattan, St.Fran-Bklyn, Stony Brook & St. John's could all possibly end up in the mix - three little 'Davids' along with a mid-level 8/9 seed.

he's getting worse as the season wears on.

    4/9 against VT

    1/7 against Syracuse

Another reason I don't have faith in Duke. Poor free throw shooting from your main scoring option...

Also, the starters are playing big minutes and getting worn down. Cook about 36 mpg. T.Jones about 33.

They are a top 5 team in terms of talent, IMO, but I don't think they have the ingredients for a FF run.

    At the half:

    Gorgonzola 35
    Peppermint 33

    Manhattan 39
Iona 37 (A.J. English fortunate he wasn't tossed - cheapshot)
