I really don't give a hoot what you want or what you don't want to hear. The eye test shows Carolina to be loaded with 5-star, big-bodied, board-crashing talent, so even short-handed they physically match up against practically any starting lineup. Further, they played Duke even (at Duke no less) and should've won the game had they not choked….which is an 'x' factor that maybe should be taken into account when gauging UNC's strength in addition to the eye test and how they project on paper.

About Georgia Tech: not only not a good tean, half their team mailed it in Saturday and Brian Gregory pretty much said it afterwards.

UNC's currently a #4 seed and could easily end up a #3 seed provided they don't screw up against unpredictable Miami and again play Duke tough. If they beat Duke and make hay in the ACC tourney, they're a #2. If they screw up vs. Miami and lose to Duke and go 2-1 in the ACC, they'll be happy to stay a #4. They've sh0wn they have the talent. They've also shown they're capable of spitting the bit. Nothing to 'guarantee' anything on.

played duke even on the road despite being as banged up as they are.

Carolina did choke a bit but duke did get 3 extra timeouts and the game tying basketball was a clear offensive foul while at the end of the game Paige was clearly fouled.

not worried whether GT mailed it in or not, Carolina could have been fragile emotionally after blowing that lead at duke. Carolina played great.

Lunardi has Carolina 3 seed. I think they could be anywhere from a 2-5 depending upon how they finish out.

not every loss but certainly the one the other night.

called a moving screen to get key player his 4th foul:

this was a legal screen on game tying basket to end regulation:

this is w/o even discussing the 3 extra timeouts duke was awarded based on "clock malfunctions" when duke didn't have any TOs left.

it sucks having to discuss the officials but when a game is taken it needs to be discussed.

Played Duke even because they physically more than matched up with them across the front line. Only when Johnson fouled out in OT (an OT Duke never should have seen) did the front court dynamics change.

Okafor's dipping his shoulder posting up? Bring a 2nd man over to force him into the baseline. Williams allowed his man to get hung out to dry
one-on-one against the most physically talented big man, offensive foul or not--adjust.

Could've been emotionally fragile? Oprah?…Dr. Phil??…..what do you make of this???

The same Lunardi whose assessments are pooh-poohed should they present the Big east in a positive light. Oil & water.

did you see that "moving screen" they called on Johnson? he never should have fouled out.

they did adjust which was why duke stopped getting those wide open looks from 3. Credit Jones for taking it to the basket, I just wish he didn't need D'Brickashaw Ferguson at LT opening a hole for him.

it's hard to bounce back after a tough loss like that sometimes, I fully expected Carolina to win but I thought we'd see a sluggish start. they took it to Tech from start to finish. I was impressed.

    Junc,

You STILL didn't answer my question:

What statistic, standard, or measurement can I use to counter your well thought out, fact-based argument that "the conf stinks and is overrated"? What non-subjective measures are you using?

Shouldn't have come into play - take care of business, not get "the apple in the throat" and there's no OT.

Keep Jones in front of you.

Loosey goosey against a bunch of GT bums that aren't in the same league as UNC….oh wait, they are in the same league…ACC ya later : )

I use my eyes not statistics. stinks may be harsh but it's comical to think they are one of top 2 conferences in Country.

Maybe but if duke doesn't get 2 extra TOs in the final minute(icing Carolina FT shooters each time) and then get that illegal screen the game also doesn't get to OT. They should have stepped up and hit their FTs but that doesn't mean duke didn't get huge breaks from poor officiating.

those GT bums played duke to the final minute at Cameron, lost in OT at ND and by 3 at home to ND, beat UM by 20. Their previous 5 losses they lost by a COMBINED 15 pts, Carolina beat them by 29 and it easily could have been 49.

Georgia Tech played Duke down to the final minute?….and at Cameron no less? Hmmm, then UNC should maybe not only have gotten into OT vs. Duke but maybe they should've smoked 'em instead.

Only thing I know is that UNC and Georgia Tech share this in common: they're both 0-1 vs. Big East teams with Tech losing at home to co-Big East celler-dweller Marquette. Imagine, an "absolute joke of a conference" primarily consisting of small parochial colleges beating big time State-funded universities. We know what a long-standing goliath UNC is, but did you know that 'little' ol' Georgia Tech also has campuses in Savannah, Georgia; Metz, France; Athlone, Ireland; Shanghai, China; and Singapore?

Based on WHAT? What did you see in the games that you watched that makes you think the entire conference stinks and is overrated?

Nothing specific that I committed to memory, just ugly, boring basketball btw mediocre teams. if 'Nova was in the ACC they'd finish 5th or worse.

And based on THAT, you want it universally accepted that the entire conference "stinks and is overrated"?

    Two Points:

    1) I never said the ACC wasn't good this year
    2) Based on what?

Nova is better than anyone in the ACC right now sans Duke. Virginia might've been a better team but they aren't the same without Justin Anderson and now their PG is hurt. Not being a fan of Nova or any ACC team, I'd say they'd finish 2nd or 3rd in the ACC with as good a shot as anyone at no.1.

again, stinks may bea stretch but if someone is telling me they are 1st or 2nd then yeah it's incredibly overrated.
The ACC is excellent at the top but the bottom half stinks.

Let's assume UVa will be healthy. 'Nova would have no chance against duke or UVa, they are on a similar level as Carolina, ND and UL(we'll see what happens to them w/o Jones) but Carolina seems to have 'Nova's #.

Amazingly: I am more worried about a potential Villanova/UNC match-up than any other team in the ACC (Because I think we are fucking jinxed against that team.) I think Virginia would be a great match, but I'd like Villanova's chances because they are so balanced on offense and defense, and I'm not sure if Virginia has faced anyone with that balanced a game.

As for Duke, puh-leeze. Remember the last time Villanova played the Reigning ACC Champion Blue Devils?
