I wussed out and bagged going into the city. Weather's a mess and didn't want to deal with driving and took in the game on the tube instead. Villlanova's a fun team to watch. At times they whip the ball around nicely. Outhustled Illini in the 1st half to the glass and for loose balls. Kept their cool when Illinois ramped up their defense and started hitting threes to tie it up. Big man Ochefu owns some nice spin moves, Pinkston's a force, Arcidiacono's a heady guy with the ball and Hilliard and Hart are talented slashers. And Ennis has ice water in his veins; he gave them some needed offense in the 2nd half including nailing that tough, nervy jumper from the baseline. Nice win going away.
Wuss. I went to a closing dinner tonite in the city and it's gorgeous out. Perfect nite to be out in NYC. _
I'm looking at the Associated Press collegiate basketball rankings. Is this a misprint or is the Univ. of North Carolina not even ranked in the top 20?
it's happened a lot since wining their last Nat'l title all the way back in 2009 but it is a little low. It's December, by the end of January they will be back in the top 10 or maybe sooner if they can spring the upset this Saturday.
They upset Kentucky and they definitely should jump back into the top 10. First off, beating the latest edition of the Calipari 'one & done' All-Stars who've already been installed it seems as the eventual national champions, plus the fact that early in the season with fewer games having been played, the ranking impacts are greater much like how a baseball player's stats can jump markedly early in the season. I'm curious: has a point spread been established yet for Sunday's game?
But I thought you touted them heading into the season as FF material and dismissed their loss to an 'inferior' Butler team as an early season hiccup that will right itself come March (when early-in-the-season successful Duke goes downhill)?
^^ All that aside, Louisville looked flat out impressive last night. Was in the process of blowing out Indiana until the Hoosiers made a run and took a brief 52-50 lead. Louisville once again put the hammer down and resumed throwing it down and blowing out IU by 20. Harrell is as good as anyone Kentucky can put on the floor and Rozier's got some serious skills as well. Like they said last night, there are currently 3 great teams in Kentucky: UK's 1st team, UK's 2nd string, and Louisville. : ) Locally: - Lions to be fed to the Christians : Columbia at #1 Kentucky (ow!) - Fairly Rediculous at #24 St. John's - Monmouth at Rose Hill - Iona hosts Rider
I was talking about a line for the game. I definitely expect this Carolina team to get better and better and be a legit FF contender.
Even if UNC loses to Kentucky, they will have plenty of opportunities to crack the Top 20 this season. They play in a conference that not only provides the opportunity to play numerous ranked teams, but they will endure the grind that comes with playing game after game against well-rounded programs, stressing top-quality in-game competition. So, how 'bout them 'Zags?
FYI - Using the nyjunc laws of out-of-conference scheduling, Villanova is having an outstanding start of the season. 3 wins against ranked teams on neutral courts.
Villanova has been outstanding so far. if you were paying attention instead of worrying about Gonzaga you'd be enjoying this.
I have to worry about Gonzaga. They are ranked one slot behind my team, and are about to sweep an entire conference whose best win was against.... San Jose State? New Mexico State?
No I don't think so. Was a win over UNC worthless after their loss to Santa Clara in 2004? Now, TWO losses, that is a different story.
a)UNC was a top 5 team going into that year b) Raymond Felton didn't play c)it was en route to Hawaii where teenagers could be distracted d)it was on the road e)Santa Clara is not NJIT
Michigan is not UNC, as you are so fond of reminding all of us, so the gap between the two programs is equal.
Nebraska just lost to Incarnate Word.... Big 10 playing like the Little 10 yet again. Can we just throw this conference into the category with mid majors. Sure Wisky and OSU are good but all their other teams are overrated year in and year out
