You may be right, but I'm saving this quote for later... Just like I saved quotes from people who wondered why we drafted Doug Martin....
Any game is winnable. The advantage I think is that the Jets are at home. Both teams have a good defense but the Bucs have a better QB situation and better running game. Whichever team scores 20 points will probably win. I don't think that will be the Jets.
Just to add: Don't get in a "Jump Ball" situation with our primary receivers... Do whatever you can other than that... Mike Williams has made catches that would make you think he's a gymnast, and so has VJax...
While I obviously want us to win, and can see it happening in some light - I just don't know. Here to having hope though, 6 more days!
I see MM staying fairly conservative early on trying to protect Geno. I see our running game doing absolutely nothing, less than 3.5 ypc. I see 1 Geno TO, not a pick 6 or red zone. I see Tampa getting on top early and then running the ball down our throats for close to or over 200 yards. Tampa 20 Jets 13. I think the NFC south is going to surprise and be one of the better divisions in football this year and we go 0-4 against them.
Jets win 24 21 after the Tampa field goal kicker blows a late kick to tie the game.Cromartie gets a pick six,Powell gets a td,and Geno throws 1 td
I really wouldn't be shocked if we keep their offense at bay enough to score 17 points and win. Freeman is not good, bottom line. Martin can only shoulder so much of the load and I think Wilk and Richardson will put a beating on him. I'm not saying this is how it will shake out, I just wouldn't be shocked. Although the Buccs fan's sell of VJax and Mike Williams would make you think they have the best 1-2 WR punch in the league...
I'll remind you that the Jets made it to two post seasons and 3 out of 4 post season wins with a strong defense and a strong running game based around a weak QB and passing attack. You know, kind of the same formula you listed the Buc's as using.
Bucs defense is not the Jets defense from those two years. Their passing D is one of the worst in the league.
At this point we do not know that, you are only speculating that their pass D is one of the worst in the league and with the addition of Revis that should help. How much is yet to be seen. On the same note though, you can speculate that the Jets passing offense is going to be one of the worst in the league.
Revis hasn't played a game in almost a year. You think he's going to bring them from one of the worst to even mediocre in week 1?
Where in my post did I ever say that? Each year in the NFL is different, what I said is what the Bucs were last year means nothing. However, adding Revis without playing in a year will still improve just about every defense in the NFL even in week 1 - I said how much is yet to be seen. This game is not going to be won through the air, it will be won on the ground, big advantage Bucs.
I think we will win. But it will be an ugly one. I expect a defensive TD from us and multiple turnovers from Tampa caused by our defense. Offense won't do much but we will still win.
Fwiw, the New Orleans Saints 2012 defense that broke a 31-year league record for yards allowed shut out Tampa 41-0 last year. Passing: 4 INTs Doug Martin: 16 yds rushing Tampa rushing defense: 149 yards allowed
Well you flat out said Revis will make them better. Then I asked you if you thought they would even be mediocre in week 1 considering they were one of the worst last year and Revis hasn't played in almost a year. I think the question was pretty warranted...
I'm only worried about three things. Geno, will he show he's capable of being the starter? Dee Milliner, can he handle those two big receivers? Protection - In order for us to make explosive plays on offense, we need our offensive line to play lights out.
Yes, that is true... We were definitely going through a down-spiral at that time... Do you think the Jets will be able to repeat that feat in week 1???
Maybe. The last time Josh Freeman faced Rex Ryan's defense his team didn't get a first down until the third fucking quarter.
