There was no context. Hershiser just popped out with it when Miller came out in the first inning to pitch. The other guys didn't respond to that.

It was roughly "And here's Shelby Miller, really a young man that should still be in the minor leagues because his curve isn't good enough..."

Zack Greinke leads all MLB pitchers in hits despite missing some time on the DL (Carlos Quentin). He has 14 hits, Travis Wood is second with 12.

Greinke is 14/35 with 4 walks.

.475 OBP. He even has a stolen base.

Alex Rodriguez plans to appeal his 214-game drug suspension related to the Biogenesis case and play Monday night for the Yankees against the White Sox, according to people involved the case. But he may be the only one of the 13 or so players to appeal.

While a couple of Biogenesis-linked players suggested behind closed doors they were seriously considering appeal, with a few hours to go before the announcement there was no confirmation anyone was joining A-Rod in appealing his suspension.

Rangers outfielder Nelson Cruz has told people he will not appeal after some earlier reports suggested he might. He is said to have received encouragement to possibly appeal from some teammates who are concerned about their pennant push, but he must understand it would be difficult to fight this case. At the same time, Cruz has fired his longtime Brooklyn-based agent, ACES (the Levinson brothers), who reprented many of the Biogenesis-linked players, and hired veteran agent Adam Katz.

Did he or any other player take money out of your pocket? Why do you care? You are just a fan who is there to be entertained. Stop being a pawn for billionaires, and use your head.

The Rangers (Texas-style) are an excellent team with a great FO and this is a perfect example of that. the WS wanted 2 blue-chip prospects for Rios before the trade deadline. The Rangers were in a bind because of the Cruz situation but they didn't give in. Now they get Rios for nothing more than the organization's 4th best SS prospect. Great trade, tho it remains to be seen how good Rios will perform for them. Still, they had the balls (and surplus minor league talent) to get the deal done. They picked up Matt Garza as well, the best starter available. They're not guaranteed a playoff spot but they're sure doing the best they can to make it happen. It's a fun organization to watch.

^ agreed, rangers did well in this one.

Puig's WAR is now 5th among NL OFs.

The Rays have intentionally walked Puig four times this weekend, and the series isn't even over yet.

The Padres released Volquez and the Dodgers picked him up.

Picking him up was not smart in the first place, because he's not a major league pitcher. But to compound their error, the Dodgers are starting him at Coors Field. They obviously haven't been paying much attention.

I laughed when I saw him on the waiver wire last night in my fantasy league as a probable for tonight. I guess LA is hoping for 5 or 6 innings and a 5-4 type of score and then just go from there

Yusmeiro Petit with a perfect game for San Francisco over Arizona through 8 innings. Giants up 2-0.

Edit: Petit has a 12-20 lifetime record, with a 5.37 ERA. He could replace Phil Humber as the worst pitcher ever to pitch a perfect game.

Petit loses the perfect game with two outs in the 9th on a single by Eric Chavez.

Petit has been very effective since being promoted this season, for whatever reason.

Volquez got lit up in his start as expected.

And my fantasy team is shedding a tear for quite possibly the greatest "scrap heap" pick up of all time in this league.

Amazing that in the AL the WC has 6 teams fighting for 2 spots and all 6 only seperated by 2 games.

I would love to see the Royals sneak in there, what's crazy is Butler has had a down year, Moustakas has struggled but Hosmer has been a stud. I don't see them making it but barring an unreal collapse they should win 82 games and finish over .500 since 2003.

If Texas (2-8 in September) and Tampa Bay (4-13 since August 24) hadn't both gone into the tank this wouldn't be any kind of race at all, so I wouldn't exactly call it a great race (kind of like the NL East in 2007).
