First BIG game of the young season tonight:

Sidney Crosby and the Penguins, Alexander Ovechkin and the Capitals.

Battle for 1st Place in the Metro Division at Verizon Center!

    Can't wait. I'll be there.

The Croz had his way tonight.

Oilers scored 7 goals last night. Columbus officially sent to the AHL.

Guess it should be mentioned that Stamkos broke his leg the other week. Huge loss for Tampa and Team Canada at the Olympics.... It will be one of the most competitive Olympic tournaments in recent memory. Canada, US, Russia, Sweden, Finland, Czech and Slovakia will all have full, stacked to the brim lineups.

I have tried to not get too excited over the Jets or Capitals this year, but I finally allowed myself to get excited for the Jets-Bills and Pens-Caps games this week. Did not go well. haha.

    http://www.vancouversun.com/sports/...goalie+Roberto+Luongo+date/9351950/story.html

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Two weeks to get back in the lineup, one game to leave it.

Vancouver Canuck starting goalie Roberto Luongo is injured again – or at least unable to dress tonight against the Anaheim Ducks as Eddie Lack's backup. After stopping 46 of 48 shots Saturday in a 3-1 loss against the Los Angeles Kings, Luongo was replaced on the roster this afternoon by emergency fill-in Rob Laurie, a 43-year-old former journeyman pro who lives in Southern California and whose hockey career ended with the El Paso Buzzards in 2002.

There was no immediate word on Luongo's condition, although the goalie appeared to hurt his right foot or ankle Saturday when Kings' forward Dustin Brown launched himself into the Canuck after scoring the go-ahead goal in the third period.

It was Luongo's first game since he injured his right groin against the Winnipeg Jets on Dec. 22.

“My foot got caught under me as he was accidentally running me over,” Luongo told reporters after finishing Saturday's game. “Luckily, this time the pain went away.”

It must have returned on Sunday.

Laurie, who lives in Corona, Calif., sat on the Ducks' bench the first four minutes of a game against the Dallas Stars last April 5 when Anaheim had a unxpected injury crisis similar to the Canucks' one today. But in that case, the Ducks' minor-league goalie, Igor Bobkov, arrived at the Honda Center just as the game began.

So this guy just fills in during goaltender emergencies that happen in California? Lol

Sweet deal. Wonder what he gets paid per game.

yeah twice in one season. It's pretty amusing. I guess he's the emergency contact because he's closer than their affiliate.

waiting for the 'goalie injured in warmups' situation

announcement on the PA: "Has anyone here ever played goalie?"

I am willing to cover emergencies in Alberta. $500 per game with a $500 shutout bonus. I have some sweet road warrior goalie pads that Ill go to war with.

Not much happening in this thread this year, but I think that was due to NFL season. Should be getting more active now. Caps have been good, currently on a losing streak though. Pens again running away with #1 seed. Are they built to win in the playoffs though? Or will they flop again?

St Louis is my midway pick to win the SC. I think they get past the Kings this year.

Sweden is my pick for the Gold Medal at Sochi.

Bobby Ryan and D Byfuglien left off Team USA.

I like the Blues. I have considered them a top team for the past couple years, while rest of the league overlooks them.

I want a Canada-USA rematch for the Gold, but I hope Russia wins because I am sure they have some clause in their contracts that includes execution if they fail to win in Russia.

Always questionable as long as they have Fleury...

I think Pittsburgh may get to double digits on Friday @Edmonton, actually looking forward to watching that train wreck.
