Nice win over the Cards and that grandstanding catcher of theirs……nice catch by Gardner, clutch hit by Roberts.
Still amazing to think Tanaka keeping us above .500. 9-1 record, 2.02 ERA. 10-2 in games he starts. Incredible. It's a joy watching him pitch
It is...that is the one game no matter what my schedule is that is taped and watched. Not missing many games but never miss his. DF..let me ask you a question...how does Cashman still have a job? Is he the worst GM of all time? Has any system not created one all star player in the last decade besides a reliever? It blows me away the way this guy skates untouched by the media.
If he misses the playoffs a second straight year, that might do it for him. Even though he hasn't been great developing, the last couple years he was on fire signing the cheap, old role players.
but any GM could do that if they have the extra money to do so. I don't know how a team could get away from having a farm system like this one...with all the money they have they should put millions into their farm system and scouting.
Well the cheap role players any team had a shot, it was picking the right ones. The Yankees problem, well it's been a ton of problems. They need to commit to getting under the luxury tax or commit to outspending everyone. They wavered back and both, you need to commit to strategy which they haven't done.
Betances is absolutely nuts right now too. 65 Ks in 38 innings. Do they fuck it up and make him a starter?? How about everybody's favorite Phil Hughes pitching well in Minnesota......
DP...What I loved in this game is something new from him. At some point, the downside for a splitter guy is recognition. If the hitters start to lay off. He did something last night that makes me believe this is not a run. On spliiter counts, he threw his fastball at the knees and guys for the first time didn't swing. He did it several times. Perfect pitches. This guy is as special as I have seen in a long time from a Yankee. I think he is actually going through a rut right now with players picking up the splitter as evident the last 2 games with the pitch count getting out of hand earlier. Really believe this is temporary because anyone would die for a "rut" like this. Special dude...special mindset....special stuff. You don't go 24-0 in any league and then come to the pros and go 11-1. He is now past his "wait till they see him a second time". A team like the Blue Jays looked even worse then they did the first time. At some point he will have that game that has to come every so often with a guy with that control. Many of us played baseball and there was nothing better then hitting against a guy in the strike zone so often. So..the longball here and there. Still...wow. Fun times ahead.
You hear people all the time say "they would be lost if it were not for this guy or that guy" and if you look closely, you can find a way a team would still be in the hunt. Not this time..not this guy. Wow...this team would be flirting perhaps just above the Rays. There is just no hitting to think they could make up for this guy. Whats really impressive is that he hasn't had much run support too. Seems like he is giving up a 3 run homer and losing the game away in most games. He has had to keep teams down to his ERA just to have a chance. Very impressive.
Blue Jays got swept. I can't find the stat, but I guess Toronto has struggled to win in NY these past few years. It was like 2-15 or something
lol...dp...is it me or is Toronto a bunch of really pissed off moody players. Man...everytime a guy steps in the box....angry bunch of guys. Phelps? What can you say. Showed a ton of fire last night and LOVE that. Even going back to the days of Torre, have not seen a Manager handle a pitching staff as well as Joe does. Real good pulse of the team and when and when not to use guys. The constant success of average/maybe slightly above average young guys coming up on the staff..meaning starters. Bullpen? The game of baseball has changed so much when it comes to the 7th inning on. Not many runs to be found for the most part. Teams with guys throwing 95+. Just seems that maybe the steroid testing has caught up to the player for the most part. You have several teams that can still score a bunch but its slowly becoming a pitchers league again. Think the Yanks are just a Beltran getting hot away from going on a real good run here. Amazing considering C.C. and Tar man not being on the staff. Have to give to Joe...doing well with very little.
