I managed to watch the game on the net. We scored first and 0-1 They scored two goals in 10 minutes and they were up 2-1 until 90th minute We scored again and 2-2 draw. Very very nice. Juve will play 2 straight games with Real Madrid. We will play 2 straight games with Copenhagen If we win both Copenhagen games, we might have a chance to advance second round.
Dempsey and Bradley both will not play this weekend in the qualifiers..... hopefully we'll get to see some more of Mix and Aron Johannson. BTW am I alone in thinking that if Mexico does not beat Panama we just lay down against the Panamanians to ensure Mexico does not qualify? If Panama wins or draws and we let Panama beat us there is no way Mexico can win that 4th spot. Assuming of course Hondorus takes care of business. All they need is a point in their next 2 to get in. The next week in Europe is going to be crazy.... I am real interested in Group H where England, Ukraine, Montenegro and Poland are all fighting to advance to Brazil or the playoff. Only 2 will make the cut. They all have at least one game against each other. I think of all teams Ukraine is in the best shape despite being in 2nd. They host Poland and they go to San Marino. That should give them at the very least 19 points. Hard to imagine that not being good enough to at least get to the playoff.
Cosmos 7 points atop the table. Could clinch the fall league Oct 20th at Hofstra if everything falls into place.
beyond the USA and Mexico rivalry, Nike would love nothing more than to eliminate adidas' North American team and kill their World Cup sales in the U.S.
Dam..... Mexico was about 5 minutes away from being all but eliminated and one of the most amazing goals I have ever seen saved their asses. I can still pull for Hondurus to force Mexico into the playoff and even better Costa Rica to beat Mexico in San Jose and the US to lay down against Panama.
Lots of really good intense action today in Europe.... England Spain Russia Bosnia all qualify while Iceland, France, Ukraine, Sweden , Portugal, Romania, Croatia, and Greece go into the playoff and Denmark even though were runners up go home by virtue of technically being in the "weakest" group. If Iceland who will have the chips stacked against them somehow win their playoff they'll be the smallest nation to ever qualify. One of the big surprises today was Armenia walking into Naples and drawing 2-2 with Italy and only being aboutr 15 minutes from walking out with a win. Armenia has to be kicking themselves as they would have taken a playoff spot if not for a home loss to Malta who are one of the worst teams on the planet. BTW how awful is Andorra? 10 qualifiers 0 wins and 0 goals.... only gave up 30. I'd like to see UEFA change their qualifying as teams like San Marino, Andorra, Faroe Islands and soon Gibraltar have no business being in these groups. Something similar to how Asia does theres would be much better as you eliminate a lot of the garbage sooner. Maybe have playoffs to actually get into the groups and make the groups smaller.
Barry I will be in Vegas during Christmas/New Year. Will you be in the area at the time? If yes, I will bring you a 13 year old Galatasaray jersey if you promise to be a Galatasaray fan. Just kidding. I do have 2 of the same jersey so I can give you one. Size is XL.
Hahaha, I do wear size XL My condolences about your Turkish side today.... they had a tall task to beat Netherlands but the Dutch punished them as they did Hungary last week. Sneijder scored and didn't even celebrate. Looking like Uruguay will get stuck in the playoff against Jordan as Chile leads Ecuador 2-0 in Santiago.
Unfortunately Mexico tied it up and then came within a whisker of taking the lead. A centering pass was pushed a foot outside the post with the Costa Rican goalie totally beat. 1-all beginning the 2nd half.
Looks like Mexico might have to start blowing Klinnsman as the US equalize against Panama just seconds after the Ticos take the lead. Costa Rica is doing their part.... come on Panama.
BtB, mixed emotions on this one. On one hand, screw Mexico and their fans (and their "Osama!" chants). I'd have laughed at the prospect of them getting shut out of the World Cup. At the same time, props to a USA team that could've just mailed it in but instead went the distance, fought till the very end and persevered. And with it, Mexico (and their cheesy hypernationalistic chest beating notwithstanding) knowing full well that they had to depend on the hated Estados Unidos da America who (to them) suck in soccer to bail out their sorry, underperforming asses....and to add fuel to the fire, on a night when they themselves couldn't even hold up their end of the bargain and instead spit the bit and lost to Costa Rica - a total 100% backed-into-the-WC gift. De nada Mexico.
Why did USA score those 2 stoppage time goals? Sigh. Poor Panama. Barry Sneijder is a class act. I hope he stays at Galatasaray long as possible.
We had a lot of guys playing for a roster spot in Brazil. Almost everyone that played last night is far from a lock for the WC. Throw in Klinnsman seems like a guy who preaches you play hard until the end and never take your foot off the gas. I also think the US is a class act and they're not just going to roll over and play dead because it would have knocked Mexico out of the WC. I don't like hearing Mexico backed into the playoff, the botom line is Panama in their last two games had the results they needed yet in the final minutes couldn't hold on. That's not on Mexico, that's on Panama.
