A controversy in Washington: Joel Peralta of Tampa Bay was thrown out of the game before he threw a pitch (he came in to relieve) for having "a significant amount" of pine tar in his glove. Peralta pitched for the Nats in 2010, so obviously they knew he doctored the ball back then. He'll get 10 games off for his trouble, but what I find more amazing are Joe Maddon's comments after the game as stated in the Washington Post: Maddon is explicitly saying publicly that everybody cheats and no one does anything about it. I wonder if Selig is going to do anything about him doing that? One thing for sure - Goodell would never let an NFL head coach get away with publicly saying that everybody cheats.
The Rays are going to wear 1979 type Jersey's. I actually think it's pretty cool. http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-b...clock-uniforms-party-1979-213700184--mlb.html
I don't like the Rays, but it's pretty cool to wear throwback uniforms for special occasions. I like the days when teams go "old school" for special nights.
Re: Thome This morning I was trying to figure out what team would want him and only Baltimore made sense at this time. Every other good AL team has a good DH right now.
DENVER -- Yasmani Grandal stepped off the plane and made baseball history. Grandal, called up from Triple-A before Saturday's game, homered from both sides of the plate for his first two hits in the majors and led the San Diego Padres to an 8-4 win over the Colorado Rockies. "I can't describe how remarkable this is," Grandal said. "Just getting the call-up was surreal. To get called up and hit two home runs for my first two hits, it's just incredible." It was the first time a player has homered from both sides of the plate for his first two major league hits, according to the Padres. http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/gametracker/recap/MLB_20120630_SD@COL
Not Axford's fault this time, but wow. Brewers hosting the Marlins, led 9-2 after 6. It's now tied at 11. Gomez with a great catch to keep it that way. Marlins playing without Hanley Ramirez and Stanton.

Oliver Perez is pitching for Seattle now. I didn't know he was still in the big leagues. He came in in relief of King Felix. Wei-Yin Chen has a perfect game through 6. No hits, no walks, no errors, 8 Ks.
Zack Greinke ejected after he spiked the ball into the ground in frustration. Ump ejected him immediately. Greinke threw FOUR pitches today.
I wonder if Greinke will start tomorrow. C.J. Wilson made starts on two consecutive days this season.
Yeah, they wear those on Sundays in Chicago this year. It is a light red, almost a pink. I had one of those White Sox hats when I was in high school.
just updating, Greinke did start. also vbetting tonight http://forums.theganggreen.com/showthread.php?t=72882
Yeah, I just noticed that when looking at my fantasy league. This time he lasted more than four pitches but only retired 9 batters. Pretty rotten weekend for him.
