If they were going to do what they did, they could have at least mentioned he agreed to play right last year (and did so). They completely ignored that fact. Anyone not familiar with the history would have assumed this was the first time he'd ever played right, the way they were carrying on about it.
It WAS the first time he volunteered to do it on a regular basis for a prolonged stretch. THAT was what they were making a big deal about.
OK, but it wasn't the first time he'd played it. It makes a big difference whether you're moving to a new position for the first time, and that's what they implied.
I guess that's the disconnect here then. I don't think that's what they were implying. Like I said, Francona is the one that put him there in the first place, so he obviously knew he did it last year. The situation was 180 degrees different this year though.
The Padres are really slapping around the Reds tonight. I don't think the Adrian Gonzalez thing was a big deal in 2011. He wasn't even OF-eligible in fantasy baseball at the start of this season.
I have absolutely no interest in it. I didn't even read every word of your argument with DOTTHR. I'm just sayin' it could not have been a big deal. He didn't play long enough to even be eligible as an OF in fantasy baseball. Furthermore, a 1B playing a few games in the OF is not a big deal. Todd Hundley or Mike Piazza playing in the OF is news.
The Red Sox win a rain shortened game 4-1. The game was initially on a rain delay in the top of the 6th with the Tigers having the bases loaded!!

Blowing a 7-1 lead and a 3-run lead in the 10th in the same game is not going to make Mike Scioscia very happy.
Aaron Cook has four strikeouts this season in over 40 IP. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=17893
He boosted his Ks per 9 innings to 1.0 by striking out 2 against Texas! What a huge day for him! one K per 9 innings  He walks more guys than he strikes out. His ERA is 4.7 but that can't last. If he keeps going like this, it shouldn't be long before he's over 5.
