I was hoping for a rational conversation. I'm really not sure why you feel the need to make personal attacks. Using your logic, Brady was merely reaching for the record. If he didn't "run up the score" he wouldn't have had 50 TD's that season and Moss wouldn't have had 23 TD's. He was chasing history in the same way Brees was chasing history. In fact, Brees had another whole game to set the record and that game was at home in NO. I'll give you that Belichick has his faults, but who doesn't? Rex Ryan made a porno, Ben Roethlisberger raped a girl, Braylon Edwards had a DUI. People here love Rex and clamor for the opportunity to get Braylon back. We hardly ever hear about Ben's incident anymore. Article number 1 talks glowingly about Belichick Article number 2 is a spy gate story, which any rational person understands the limited value of his "cheating". If it helps Jets fans deal with the Patriots success, so be it. Article 3 - If he really is doing that to help his team win games; I hardly view that as part of his character. This isn't the place to have this discussion (maybe a new thread), but I've made my point. You can attempt to turn this into BB the bad guy and Brees the good guy, but let's be honest: The jealousy of the Patriots success has completely blinded your objectivity.
You are obviously just trying to get something going but I'll bite. I don't think issue that Jet's fans have with the Patriots is actually with "The Patriots," but more with Patriot's FANS. Patriot's fans as a rule are smug, snarky, entitled, and beyond snobby. Pats fans favorite term when describing other teams is "classless" ...as though the Patriots are the classiest team in the NFL-- which is bullshit as they are just football team like all the other teams and engage in all the same 'classless' behaviors. (and I am using air quotes because it's football... who ever decided to start using classiness as a gauge for anything in this sport is an idiot) Also... most people remember not too long ago when Foxboro Stadium was damn near EMPTY before the Brady Bandwagon started loading up... and most people know that when Brady is gone in a few years... it will be empty again. The jealousy thing is way off the mark. Why would Jets fans be jealous of the Pats but not Green Bay, or the Saints, or any other of the billion teams that are better than the Jets right now? The jealousy remark, does however, illustrate why nobody likes Pats fans.
What if I said: People from Maine are stupid, white, ignorant hicks who are imbred. What would your reaction be? You would say: That is a generalization. Not everybody is stupid, white, ignorant, hick-like, or imbred (For the record, I do have family in Maine, just using it as an example). I'm sorry if you have had experiences with a Patriots fan that have tainted your view, but it's absolutely ridiculous to call every Patriot fan those not so endearing terms. That is an emotional response and it is not rational. I'm not going to argue one organization is classier than another, but when Jeff decided to say that the reason this board reacts to the Patriots "running up the score" is due to their coach being a jerk, something needs to be said. You said it yourself, there is no such thing as class in sports. Which goes back to my point: The jerkiness or lack of class has nothing to do with why this board isn't talking about the Saint's running up the score. It's jealousy (combined with the rivalry) which causes the differences in reaction. Nobody likes Patriot fans? Again, you seem to have a serious problem with over generalization. Do you actually believe what you are saying or are you trying to get a response?
The first sentence of article 1 is "Why is Bill Belichick such a complete jerk?" - are you seriously suggesting that that isn't about Belichick acting like a jerk? And I also explicitly said that acting like a jerk is part of his shtick, so your comment on how it's supposedly not part of his character is irrelevant. And I'm sure every one of the 16000 Google hits that come up for the exact phrase "Belichick is a jerk" are all just the unobjective rants of jealous people. First you make a post stating that you don't believe that Belichick acts like a jerk ("And I know this is going to be tough, but please explain to me how Belichick has acted like a jerk?"). Then you go to the tired nonsense about how Spygate was overblown, even questioning that it was cheating ("Article number 2 is a spy gate story, which any rational person understands the limited value of his 'cheating'."), which has absolutely nothing to do with the point (that article you dismiss as being about Spygate actually says "It's a disturbingly long list of behavior that paints Belichick as paranoid, unsportsmanlike, classless and, if Johnson's claims are true, even abusive," but I guess that doesn't count as someone saying that he acts like a jerk). This all demonstrates quite clearly that you're just another Patriots troll. If that's a personal attack, so be it. Like I said, feel free to leave, and then you won't have to worry about it. As for me, I'm certainly not going to waste any more time feeding the troll.
The rest of your message is unintelligent, useless drivel, so rather than respond, I'll let it go. You can't teach logic, some people are just emotional. Regarding this point, however, are you trying to bully me? Like if I stay here, I'll be subject to your personal attacks? Wow.
The funny part is you equate Brady going for 50 TD's to Brees going for the passing records. That would imply that Brees set out from the beginning of the season to break the passing record, which you and I both know is NOT the case. The Pats propensity to run up the score is also NOT confined to the 2007 season, making your argument laughable at best.
I'd say they are pretty much the same thing. I don't think Brady set out to break the record at the start of the season but once he saw it was attainable, he went for it. Brees did the same thing. As to the second point, I don't believe running up the score is wrong at the professional level, so I don't see the issue.
OBVIOUSLY I was generalizing to make a point. I thought that was given. But in order to generalize... there has to be a common theme. Your generalization about people from Maine is accurate (well except the iNbred part... that's more of a southern thing from what I've heard ;-) ), as is my generalization about Patriot's fans.
I'm not prone to dishing out unsolicited advice, but... I've been rooting for the Patriots since the late 70s. I went to my first game at age 7, in 1979. I've been through the bad years, the epically bad years, and all that stuff. But now, since the Patriots have been at or near the top for over a decade, they are a team that is generally hated around the league. That happens when a team has prolonged success. Throw in the fact that the head coach has a less-than-cuddly personality, and the end result is a lot of vitriol. As Pats fans, it's best for us to just accept it and not expect people to be fair or use the same standards. Brady got ripped on GG for crying in that ESPN special last summer, but do you think anyone on this site is going to rip Rex Ryan for breaking down in tears in front of his team? It's all only natural, and there's nothing personal in it. As fans from a rival team on a visiting board, we're going to take a lot of shit. People will always enjoy seeing Brady and Belichick fail now. It's best to just accept it, get used to it, and move on.
